Keep Cancer Alive To Stop It Spreading, Say Scientists - by Sarah Knapton/ Science Editor/ Science/ Science-News/ The Telegraph/ telegraph.co.uk

"Keeping cells alive around a tumour stops it expanding, the University of Cambridge has discovered.

Keeping cells alive rather can killing them off through chemotherapy could be the best way to fight cancer, scientists believe.

Tumours need to kill surrounding cells to make room to grow so if they do not have the space to expand they cannot get bigger, the University of Cambridge has discovered.

One of the worst problems with chemotherapy is that it kills off healthy cells in the body as well as cancer, which is why patients feel so unwell during treatment.

But the new study suggests that those healthy cells are crucial to prevent cancer spreading and keeping them alive could contain a tumour and stop it doing further damage..."
