We originally planned to drive to Puuo Lookout and hike Pihea Trail tomorrow morning. Now, we're in a wait and see status; gameday decision :) We're headed to the pool and hot tub to get her foot some therapy!

I wouldn't recommend the Pihea Trail after your DW's foot injury. The hike from the parking lot at the Pu'u O Kila Lookout to the Pihea Lookout is a moderate to strenuous hike at best, depending on weather. Steep downhill trail of rutted red dirt. Hiking shoes and trekking poles highly recommended! My husband and I did this trail 4 years ago when we were 53 and are both in reasonably good shape. we were concerned that if one of us broke or sprained an ankle, we'd be in big trouble. Health considerations aside, this is a fabulous trail and typically is quite empty, even pre-Covid. The views down over the Napali cliffs is amazing.

DW's foot felt fine so we left LBR early in the morning and arrived at the Pihea Trailhead shortly after 8AM. When we arrived at the Pihea lookout, all we saw were clouds! Since DW's foot wasn't bothering her we continued on the trail. We came to the intersection of Pihea and Alakai Swamp Trail. We turned toward the Kilohana Vista. After crossing a small stream, we walked another 1/3 mile or so, then decided to head back since we didn't know how far it was to the end. We ran into a local who informed us the end was approximately 2-2.5 miles from where we were. We continued back to our start point since we wanted to get to Pilohana State Park as well.

In the end we hiked 4.7 miles. The trail has boards in some locations. They are in bad shape. They've started replacing some with composite decking boards. The trail has some interesting sections between the broken/rotten boards and red dirt and rock "scaling" sections. We thoroughly enjoyed the hike.

We stopped at Chicken in a Barrel (2nd day in a row) for a late lunch. After lunch, we went to Pilohana State Park to check out the beach. We didn't stay too long before deciding to head back. After arriving at LBR, we had shave ice from Riptides, the little drink/food stand in front of LBR. We're headed to the pool, then having leftovers for dinner. It was worth changing the reservation to LBR based on our use of the pool.

We depart early afternoon tomorrow so our time on the island is quickly coming to an end. This is my last post covering our activities.

If you have Windows 10, you can download Microsoft's free PowerToys. After it's installed, you can resize any photo(s) by right clicking in the File Explorer.
I guess I was being lazy. I use Linux, but can do the same. Here's the pano. Interestingly, it's one of the larger resized files. This one is 5.4MB; tugbbs stated the 2.2MB and 1.7MB versions were too big.

I realize this isn't so much a better picture of P@P, but it is a wider view of the bay and point.

Sugar Loaf Pineapples are the best. Expensive but a great treat when your on the island.
It was good, but too expensive for me. They were running a special 2-for-1; price was $16. Even $8 a piece is more than I'd want to spend.

We bought local pineapples in Kauai Costco, they were huge, great taste, and only $3. Are those no good compared to some other local pineapples?

$8 is a great price and I would definitely bring some back at that price. I wouldn’t pay that all the time if they we available to me but for a treat I would definitely buy some.

When I lived in Wisconsin we only came to Hawaii once or twice a year, three times in a good year, so $20 once or twice a year was no big deal. They are very good too.We really like them.

No, those are fine but the sugar loaf pineapple has less acidity and is pretty sweet. You can also eat the core of a sugar loaf pineapple. The problem is the cost. I have spent $20 for one so it’s not going to replace regular pineapples for me.

Seek them out the next time you are on Kauai. Definitely worth a try at least once.

I purchased some pre-cut sugarload pineapple to try it; I actually prefer the regular pineapple. Sugarloaf is a special kind of pineapple; it's white and doesn't have as much acid as the typical yellow varieties. It's not bad, but I just don't want to pay more than $3-$4 for a pineapple. I see @slip replied just before I hit enter, but I'll still post my comment.

It still makes me sigh when looking at it. Thanks!
