I have a chance for a place in Princeville or in Lihue for Late December-Early Jan. Which would be best considering weather/rain?

Considering (only) weather/rain late December-early January, Lihue is definitely better.

That time of year Lihue. But if you haven’t been there before, you are going to be traveling around the island anyway so I don’t really think it will matter.

If you would be staying at Wyndham properties, most of the units at the Shearwater (in Princeville) have stunning views of Anini Beach and eastward towards Kilauea.

But the weather is likely to be much better in Lihue (less rain and less intense rain).

Given that Lihue is more central, it is a far better location for access to the entire island than Princeville. For example, many tourists desire to drive up the Waimea Canyon. Use google or your favorite map application to evaluate drive times from Princeville to the west and south sides and compare with the Lihue resort (along with drive time from Lihue to Hanalei). If the resort is truly Lihue, it will be south of the worst traffic bottlenecks.

I usually stay in Kapaa so I agree on the central location. The difference in resorts can make a difference also. With this virus issue still being around, I don’t think traffic is going to be an issue either. I still wouldn’t hesitate to stay at either place.

winner is......Lihue. Thanks to you all for getting me over this barrier.

Awesome, you will love it! Enjoy and don’t forget to be on island time while you are there!
