We are spending a few days at KBC before moving over to the Waiohai, and would appreciate any input on room location requests. I used some leftover destination points and got two separate units --- a 1 br OF and a 1 br OV. Any suggestions for preferential room locations for these two categories?

Thanks.

Chris

If it were the one bedroom OF only, I would request a high floor in the Kilohana Tower (that's exactly what I will do for my stay there in September). Every unit has a lanai and an unobstructed view of Nawiliwili Bay and the ocean beyond.

But you have two units and I assume you would prefer that they be close together. Others will have to advise on the best OV units and whether they are in the same building.

We used our MKO lock off and got a standard hotel room in the Kahili Tower with ocean view. It is the nearest tower to the entrance, front desk and valet but the furthest from the ocean. Here is the view from the balcony (we were on the 7th floor so higher would have been better).

We stayed in a 1 BR oceanfront condo at the KBC last year and I took pictures of it plus gave the name of the building, condo number and what floor it was on as I knew that I would forget these. You can find it in this album and we were very pleased with it. You could hear the ocean from our little balcony.

You will enjoy both resorts but they are quite different from each other and in different locations too.

Have a great time. :D

For the Ocean view, ask for a higher floor. There is no ocean view from the lower floors.

We also love both resorts. We typically do one week at each when we go. Different amenities at both resorts, but both are wonderful.

Can someone tell me what is the studio portion of a 1BR? Is it the parlor side or the bedroom? According to dioxide's listing of codes, I apparently received the stuido portion of a 1BR for my exchange of a MGV lockoff. i think someone told me earlier that the studio is the side with the murphy bed. But according to iconnections photos (see link above) from a couple of replies back, the bedroom portion was labeled the master/studio. I'll be there next month and I want to prepare myself and know what amenities I'll have. Looks like the bedroom just has a fridge(?) but the parlor side has microwave, sink, and dishwasher. (And neither has a toaster?) I was hoping for at least a fridge + microwave. A toaster would be nice, too. I never use a stove or oven when we stay in our 2BR or 3BR units so that's not a problem.

The "studio" side at KBC is the bedroom. Think of it as any Marriott studio: it is the bedroom split off from the remainder of the unit.

The difference is that at KBC the remainder of unit, or at least the remainder of a one bedroom unit, is the living room (with the Murphy bed, the microwave, etc.). That room is the "parlor". I do not believe Interval will accept the parlor side for exchange (unless deposited as part of the full one bedroom unit).

I didn't remember if there was a toaster or not so I called them a few minutes ago. The front desk lady told me that the parlor (room with the green Murphy type of bed and with the kitchenette) has a toaster. It may have been hidden in one of the kitchen cabinets.

The other room has no toaster where the king size bed is. I am still not sure what is what. I changed the wording once already in this album so is it still wrong? Let me know and I will correct it again.

Breakfast in the restaurant looking out on the pool was quite expensive but you can walk over to at least two other restaurants very close by and they have more reasonable prices. I don't remember the names.

PS. I added a few more pictures of the beach and the little bay on page 2. It is not open ocean like at the Waiohai but quite picturesque and the pool is beautiful! We really enjoyed the hotel atmosphere too.

I'm at Kauai Beach Club now so if anyone has any questions let me know.

What type of unit are you in? What are the 'kitchen' amenities in the bedroom/studio portion - anything besides a fridge? What about glasses and dishes?

How much does it cost to use the washers and dryers?

Is there a charge for parking? (for Marriott owners, but non KBC owners)

That's all I have for now. :)

From what I've been told in this forum recently, you have it correct. The non-parlor side of a 1BR is what is referred to as the "studio", so that's what I'll be getting when we visit next month.

I was in a 1 Bedroom Oceanfront in the Kilohana Tower. At Maui Ocean Club now. There is a mini fridge in both the parlor room and bedroom with small freezers. Also coffee makers in both. Microwave, small dishwasher, and toaster in kitchenette area. The fridges are taller than dorm size but not too big. There are 4 sets of dishes, silverware and multiple sizes of glassware. They did supply 2 boxes of tide detergent in each closet. I think the washer/dryers were $2.25 or $2.50 per load.

I am finding the rooms at Maui Ocean Club to be more open. The kitchen area is a little bigger and has full size dish washer and large fridge, but only 1.

There are 2 working barbecues on site. there are another 3 built but not working yet.

Bathroom in the bedroom area has large bathtub/shower combo while other bathroom has large walk in shower.
The parlor room has an unusual type murphy bed where you just take the cushions off the sofa that is against it and pull the bed down. I did try it for a possible future stay and it was comfortable.

There is no charge for parking for Marriott owners or exchangers. They give you a parking pass at check in if you have a car. They do offer complimentary shuttle to/from the airport.
