any differences between the 2 studios (lanai, decor, most recent update, etc)? we were in a 1 bedroom in the kalia in oct and will be heading back next september, but would like to stretch the points by booking a studio instead. with just 2 adults and an 18m old we figure that should still be plenty of space. thanks

Kalia studios have lanais, but Lagoon studios don't. Studios have a limit of 2 people, so you can't get in one with your child.

Not Even A Baby

I have specifically asked about a baby and the answer was NO. It has something to do with fire codes and legal stuff. So, you COULD get kicked out or forced to upgrade... is what I was told by HGVC. You might take your chances, but beware.

Sorry to be coming in on this one late, but I've heard others talk about it not being a huge problem to take someone extra into an HGVC timeshare unit with you (especially if it's just a baby, I would think). It sounds like the important thing is really just to be discreet.

By the fire codes and whatever else, the units are limited to the number of occupants advertised. That said, I suspect as long as you're not being ridiculous and making a ton of noise in the process (like trying to pack a dozen partying college kids into a unit built for four), it probably won't be a big deal.

There are two things I would suggest doing to keep it on the low down if you're going to try the studio with the three of you (with one being your 1.5 year old): (1) Just one of you check in at the front desk, with the other off somewhere "parking the car" or whatever, so there isn't even any attention brought to there being a third person (albeit a baby) with you, and (2) bring a pack and play or port-a-crib with you (an easy piece of check luggage), again keeping the issue away from the staff as far as possible.

I'm certainly not trying to encourage anything that might cause you trouble, but I've just heard enough people talk about it, both in person and on this board, that I'm reasonably convinced it's at least worth considering.

Good luck, and let us know how it works out.

EugeneLeeMD:

Both the Lagoon Towers and Kalia Towers are fantastic. A one bedroom unit has a sofa sleeper and will handle a guest. If you want more privacy, stay in a 2 bedroom unit at the Lagoon Towers. Have a great trip.

I would always recommend a Kalia studio over a Lagoon studio. I would always recommend a Lagoon 1 BR over a Kalia 1 BR.

No lanai in Lagoon tower studios, however there is a small 1 in Kalia tower. I love the hardwood floors in the Kalia tower.

Tiny lanai in Kalia tower 1 BRs compared to the Lagoon 1 BRs.

So studio Kalia, 1 BR Lagoon would be my recommendations.

interesting. i emailed hgvc and they said to call up kalia tower and ask. so i gave 2 calls on diff days/times. both people i talked to said a child would be ok and just to request a crib when i arrived. hope it works out cuz a pack and play itsn't that easy to bring along with the car seat/stroller/2 large checkins/2 small carryons

Even easier than I would've guessed. Who would've thought just asking would get you so far? That's great. Enjoy your trip and God's speed.
