Just want to use the facilities - Worth it? (Unique Scenario)

I live very close to a 'Vacation Village', we can get the timeshare for really cheap. But we don't care about the timeshare much, or paying for RCI or anything like it. We want to be able to use the indoor pool, hot tub, gym, outdoor pool, etc.

The maintenance fee is $800 every 3 years, and the guy is charging me $375 to transfer ownership. He's a friend of a friend and just wants to get rid of it.

Is this worth it? I have two young kids (4 years and 5 months) and we looked at 'community pool' memberships and they are a lot more... this seems cheaper, but we have the responsibility of selling it when it's time.

Just curious if I'm missing something here. Is this a good deal?

Better check with the resort to be sure they offer day use for owners. Not all do, and even if they do right now, this is a perk that can be withdrawn at any time at the whim of the HOA or developer (whichever is in charge). Get the permission in writing- the word of some desk clerk is of no value when your family are told to either book a stay, or leave.

As to whether or not that is 'worth it', that is for you to decide.

At the Marriott resorts where Day Pass usage is allowed, it's written into the governing docs but can be restricted by the GM onsite based on occupancy levels. Before buying the Week I would first make sure that it's a perk written into the governing docs and then I'd confirm with the GM how often/if ever it's restricted.

When we were staying at Vacation Village at Parkway in Kissimmee last spring we saw a few carloads of people drive up to a back entrance off Parkway Blvd (NW of Bldg 5-6) & park in a townhouse complex that is next door. The people then walked across the roadway & into the VV@P complex to use the pool. There was usually a woman & kids and it was most often weekdays after school. They had a tote bag with towels and often a small cooler of snacks.

At first DH thought maybe they had just driven from another bldg to use the pool. One day we were driving out that way just as they were leaving. We followed them down US192 for quite a while before we got to our destination, they continued on.

I cant say for certain, but it sure looked like some locals figured out how to swim in a nice pool for free! I spoke to a VV@P employee about the possibilities of issuing wristbands for pool use & she said they had too many guests to do that.

It is worth it. Just find out exactly what the rules are for day use.

I have 2 day use timeshares. I can bring as many people along for the day as my unit sleeps, so a total of 7 can visit for the day with me. I am not supposed to park in the parking garage and I just need to tell the front desk that I am there for day use and they give me a day key for the pool/gym/etc.

I have a Grandview@Las Vegas (DM Resorts, same mgmt company) triennial for that very reason. I use the fitness facility and take the daughter swimming.

We just returned from Sedona and used our Diamond Membership at the Los Abrigados resort. As long as you own at one resort they just verify you and you can use the Day Use anywhere. We tried it out at the Sedona Summit too and it worked like a charm.

We were staying at the Sedona Pines where the pool was closed so the Los Abrigados was pure bliss. I loved using their showers with their good shampoo. The spa was nice in January.

At our home resort The Ridge the General Manager said we can use our Day Use anytime all we need to do is check in. This is a resort you would love to own at as its connected to the Heavenly Ski Lift. They provide a complimentary shuttle down to Heavenly for other ski runs free of charge. Rather than pay for parking you can park here and use the Spa/Fitness Center and Lockerroom.

So if we were staying up at North Shore or if I decided to stay at a casino in Stateline I would just hop on the Blue Go Shuttle which runs along the Lake Tahoe Blvd and go up for the day and come back at night. Not many resorts have this shuttle service which is a godsend.

I love the Ridge because you can take the shuttle up there use the Day Use and hike down into the valley. There is hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail so we really have so much to do even if we can't stay there for some reason.
