Just bought a EOY Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club - Ocean View - lock out unit listed on Redweek.com for $6350. I think that it is a good buy. While I could have gotten a Mountain View for 1/3 less money for an EOY or an Annual unit for less money - we find that the view adds an important element to the enjoyment of the trip to the property. We have already booked a week with the DC points for a Mountain View week in 2013 (we are waiting to upgrade the trip)...but this will allow us to have an second week that year....I think that this will be a homerun for us.

Oddly I was also looking for a HGVC property in Honolulu...but the price points and Hilton's aggressive ROFR program has made those properties much more expensive... the Marriott property, while not on Waikiki Beach is a wonderful Hawaiian escape and a relative bargain.

:cheer:

Sounds like a fair price. Good for you. We love Ko Olina. I put in a couple offers yesterday on redweek to purchase at Ko Olina but no replies. I am patient so no problem. :)

It's a good price. There is the same eoy unit but as a garden view on eBay right now. It's up to $4800 and still has 10 days to go.

People who have stayed at both locations you mention usually prefer KoOlina.

I own 1 Plt week and am thinking of buying an EOY Plt week at the same resort. Do I get the 13 month booking window EOY?

Amisco and Darly2004,

Did you pass ROFR on your purchases? I may have missed the boat now that the due date for maintenance fees have passed.

You both got great deals,

Oz

Congrats! $6350 is indeed an excellent price.

In another thread, I posted a summary of eBay selling prices at Ko Olina during 2011.

Passed ROFR....

Just found out yesterday that the purchase passed Marriott's ROFR. I wired the money to the escrow account this morning so that the close will occur as scheduled. I have already booked a week there in February 2913 using points but now I will be able to do a second week later in the year.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

Congrats on your KoOlina purchase, great price, great resort! I also didn't realize that Marriott was taking reservations 900 years in advance!!! :hysterical:

You have to either have a very high level of status with Marriott (Kriptonium?) to get the 900 year reservation window.....or just be a bad typist. :D

Maybe it's not too late. There are still some deals available if you look around. Don't be afraid to make offers. A lot of sellers are asking unrealistic prices. There's an OV EOY Odd listed at $6350 on Redweek. Don't know if this is the same week that Amisco purchased but not updated to indicate SOLD or a different week.

Amisco, did you have to pay the closing costs and were you able to use your own closing company?

You might want to ask the seller to make a reservation for you for 2013 if you'd prefer to go consecutively with your other week next Feb.

The listing on Redweek is the unit that I bought...the seller hasn't marked it as sold. the seller was open to using the closing company associated on the Redweek site...I have used them before and they are reasonable in cost and can be done to a great degree online.

Not a problem for 2013

Thanks for the recommendation, but I am looking to book a week later in the year...November or December.

Hi,

I am still trying to figure out a few things regarding DC points. How can you get a second week in the same year? Does it have to be two consecutive weeks?

Thank you! :)

I think the OP meant that now with his/her new purchase he can reserve a second week.

With a regular week ownership of a lock-off unit, you can lock-off and use each side for a week, effectively giving you either 1 week in a 2BR unit or 2 weeks in a 1BR and studio.

Reservations with DC points is different than reservations with week ownership reserving weeks at their home resort.
