Had a great time for three weeks.

Two big turtles hang out around WKORV. Found an Octupus out front.
Whales sighted on October 26 -- I didn't see any in November Two camera stores rent high quality underwater cameras. The Lahaina Nikon and Canon store and the Lahaina Whale foundation. Wished I rented one the best snorkeling in Maui is right out in front of WKORV and WKORV north

We went to Ukelana and enjoyed it.

Went to owner update, we want to trade up but the big stocky guy we got stuck with was as useful as T___ts on a Boar pig. We wasted 60 minutes as he went on and on talking about himself--before he got to his HARD SELL, and we arrived somewhat interested in upgrading from an OV if it was reasonable. He pushed us to trade our WKORV-N units and make a lateral for $20000 per unit more cost to consolidate our ownership into WKORV solely. What sense does that make I told him.

He did have a list showing that Starwood has 29 timeshare units for sale.He also made clear that Starwood will not give consideration of any appreciation the value of your units. if you purchased your unit for $1000 Starwood, will only give you $1000 credit for a trade up value. So Starwood considers a $1000 OF is less valuable than a $40000 Island View in their calculation

Anyway Had a great time With my Mai Tai in hand, I dutifully watched the Sun set every day exactly at its appointed time. I want you all to know i was On the job ensuring the Universe ran properly and on time.

Regards

It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.

I hope you are re-hired next year.

Nice summary of your trip and Owner's update fiasco.

I agree about that the snorkeling in front of the resort is very nice.

Scott, ... You only mention appreciation. Beyond timeshares never appreciating in price, it's only half of the rule. No appreciation or depreciation from the developer sale price is the whole rule when you upgrade. I don't think you understood what you were being told.

For, that means if you pick up a resale unit that Starwood sold for $40,000 to the prior owner and you want to upgrade the unit, your allowance off the total developer price of the upgraded unit is $40,000. If the total price of the upgraded unit would normally be $62,000, Starwood will take back your unit and sell you the upgraded unit for $22,000 - not $62,000.

The no appreciation or depreciation rule works both ways. ... eom

Scott & Laura,

Glad you had a good time in Maui. Hard not to. By chance, did you mean "Ulalena"? If so, I agree that it was better than I thought it would be.

Most everything has a ebb and flow - including getting groups of slobs and those that are considerate of others - and then there is mentality where if it already trashed, then...

If the issue deserves attention then email the WKORV Manager - they are very responsive.

We are looking forward to our first visit in whale watching season.

There must be some sort of limitations on that. Otherwise, what's stopping me from buying 10 silver season weeks for $1 each and trading them for an OF or event week in Maui.

(If there aren't any limitations, sign me up, but it doesn't seem likely)

Do they only take 1 in trade per purchase, or have a minimum cash component or something?

One trade-in per purchase, minimum amount ($20K?) of new dollars required...

The gotcha is that they will take the original historical low price of the trade-in against the current high price of a new unit. We were offered new units a few years back for something like $50K more than what we paid pre-construction -- it didn't make sense to do it.

That's Hawaii for you. What I was talking about doesn't work there because of the silly developer pricing. ... eom

I'm here now and I have my meeting scheduled for Wednesday. Do you have a name so I know who to avoid? You can PM me to make it more discreet. Thanks!

I don't believe there is a 1 trade-in per purchase limit. I was able to trade in two units (including 1 resale) for 1 new purchase. I was also told that the minimum margin is $15K. The rule for trading in upgrades is that you only get credit for 80% of the trade-in's original sale price irrespective of what you actually paid for it.

I think i got 100% of purchase price for a unit I traded in. But it was a resale unit that I paid less than the original purchase price for.

New rules every day, bottom line is probably whatever encourages some kind of sale... :)

In our experience we upgraded and got 100 percent on our original purchase and was able to retro wkorvn with an upgrade. We were told it had to be a min of 20,000. You were allowed one retro per 20,000 purchase. This was done latter part of 2010

Actually, I should clarify what I wrote earlier. We received 100% of the original purchase price for our developer purchased unit and 80% of the original purchase price for our resale unit. I should have been more specific in my earlier post in that the 80% credit was only for resale units and not for developer purchases.

pathways, ... "and 80% of the original purchase price for our resale unit."

So, if the original price of the resale week was $35K and you bought it for $5K, you were given a credit against the price of the new upgrade week you purchased of $28K (80% of $35K).

And, you also got a 100% credit against the price of the new upgrade week for your prior developer purchase.

Doesn't sound like that onerous a deal to me - except for the $15K minimum for the new upgrade week. It might be a good way to get a truly unique week and, at the same time, reduce the total MFs paid by off-loading that 2nd week of MF. ... eom

Yes, exactly!, except that the credit in your example would be $28K - 80% of $35K... We got rid of our WPORV developer purchase (that I really wanted out of) and a resale SVV week that I bought on eBay for $1,800 and "upgraded" to an event week at WKORVN that is difficult to buy resale, plus a retro. I was happy with the deal.
