Just a question [why rentals, but no owner availability?]

I need to book a studio at the Flamingo Hilton in June, in addition to the home week booking I have already booked. Both call center and the calendar on the web site tell me the date I want is unavailable. Yet when I go to the commercial side I can buy a room for that night.

Question: if the complex is sold out to the owners (is it?) how can I be refused a club reservation and yet buy it on the open market?

My advice would be to keep checking right up until open season starts. I just booked a 1 bedroom for March with no problem even though club showed nothing last Nov when I started watching it. Units came and went. I cant speculate on how hgvc manages its inventory, i'm sure others will :)

This can happen because HGVC owners are able to convert their HGVC points to HHonors points. When they do that, it only makes sense that the equivalent room inventory that those HGVC points represent move from HGVC inventory to HHonors (Hilton Hotels) inventory. That room for that time now belongs to Hilton to rent out, instead of being available to HGVC owners.

Hilton still owns inventory there as well. They can do what they want with that, including renting it out through the hotel side of the business.

Hilton Hotels is compensated (with inventory) whenever a HGVC member uses their points to book a hotel or by converting to HHonors. However, the specific allotment may be fluid, so some units might be released back to HGVC for O/S booking.
