Hi

We are about to settle on a resale at Kaanapali North. What do you think the odds are of getting a week in July or August in the 1BR--the current owner tried for two August weeks and was unsuccessful.

Need some advise on booking. Thanks.

Can you ask the current owner to check all the July and August weeks that you might be interested in? It would be much more likely for the owner to make the reservation now rather than wait until you are the owner of record.

You may have already done this (sounds like they checked two weeks for you?), but if you can be flexible in your dates and check-in days (Fri, Sat or Sun), then you might have a good chance. Good luck!

I'm surprised that the current owner couldn't get in during August. That's good news for the tourist trade in Hawaii, but not so good for you. Given that the 8 month trading window is opening up, I'm afraid your odds decrease the longer you wait. I'd ask the owner to try for another August week and another check-in day, as Denise L suggested.

I know that early June is usually less in demand than other summer weeks. If that works for you, you might try that, too.

Thanks--I will give it another shot with more dates and different check in days; however, I wasn't sure if anyone else out there was recently successful in booking at that time of the year. I have to deal with school schedule so I am a bit limited for the next few years.

Fcast - Welcome to TUG. :hi: Most owners book at 12 mos. out for the best possible view, so at this point you will only find new owners and exchangers making reservations.

Since we are within the 8 mo. mark, have him check at WKORV (the original resort) for you too. The Staroptions are the same for both resorts. If you can't get either one, consider WPORV (Kauai.)

Good luck!

July and the first half of August are very high demand periods. The closer you are to the date, the harder it gets and since the exchange window is now open (less than 8 months from August), owners at all resorts are now vying for whatever opens up. On the other hand, the original owner can now request any Hawaii property so as Denise said, you can open up your search parameters to include any arrival day at any of three resorts: WKORV, WKORV-N and WPORV. I think WPORV would have the highest chance of being available. The other too are probably going to be hard to get and would likely involve getting placed on a waiting list that might not clear. You might also end up in an Island View unit facing the parking lot at WKORV.

On the other hand, this is the benefit of owning where you want to go. Once you do buy WKORV-N, you will be able to reserve at 12 months out, even if 2009 doesn't work out right now. I usually travel around the July 4th holiday and have never had a problem getting a unit there as long as I reserved between 12 and 8 months before arrival. Given that you are restricted by school holidays, you really don't want to bet on exchanges coming through at the 8 month window.
