Joining II and depositing a Marriott week: How long?

Long story short, I have an upcoming reservation that I won't be using, and if this final renter doesn't pan out, I plan on joining II and depositing the week. I know that it'll be a FlexChange, and that I'll only be able to book 30 days out when the time comes, but it's better than losing the week.

My question is, how long does it take to complete the process of joining II and having Marriott confirm the reservation? My reservation starts on 3/5, and based on very old forum posts, I was giving myself a full week to get the process done, meaning I'd join II on 2/15. Is this cutting things too close? I'd hate to join II right now because it'd be a waste of money if I rented out the unit, given that all of my vacations are already planned and I really have no need for getaways.

In case anyone searches for this question in the future, the answer in my case was apparently less than 18 hours.

And I would have thought the answer was closer to a week. They were probably able to expedite it because it was so close to check in.

Most if not all of the II verifications are now electronic. The turnaround time can be less than 24 hours if the person representing the system or resort is responsive. Marriott is very connected with II so it happens fairly quick.

What a rollercoaster this has been. I just get done letting my wife know that we're good to go for the deposit, and I wind up renting the unit out to a last second vacationer. I'm glad that I only bought a 1-year membership, though I'm curious to know if it's possible to get a refund on it.

Did you actually deposit the unit or just get it set up in the system? If you actually deposited get on the phone asap and see if you can get it back.

I haven't deposited anything yet, no, just joined. I was going to deposit the week on Thursday, which was one day before my 14-day cutoff.

You might be able to get a refund of the prorated amount of the annual fee. So they would knock it down to about $85 for the refund. I wouldn't bother and probably more hassle than it is worth. Take a look at their getaways and book an extra vacation.

It's only a one year membership, and we've already got Hilton Head and Maui booked for this year, with another trip likely to visit the wife's family. I don't see us being able to get away for another one in that timeframe.
