January 2013 exchange question

I have 8 TPU RCI exchange to Montana for January 2013. It looks like we will have to change our plans for winter vacation. I paid $ 179 exchange fee and would like to get an advise how to minimize cost. TPU value will stay unchanged till May 2012. Should I buy $79 "insurance" or just go ahead and cancel? Difference?
