I tried an old trick I used to do to get my 28K point weeks with RCI.

I'd check the RCI extra vacations for weeks and locations that were priced from $250-550 and those would usually show up as a 28K point week.

Now, when I checked RCI extra vacation. I found a specific week priced at $299 that same week showed up in my Wyndham to RCI points exchange for 95,000 points for an off-season, blue studio week.

This is sooooooo bad. A rip off compared to the flexibility and bargains we got before.

I just figured it out.

I went and got my old RCI book. RCI 2006-2007 which has the seasons outlined.

I searched for a resort in Blue, Quiet week, and found a 2bedroom.

Blue = 109,000 points (2bed)

Then I searched from Wyndham to RCI website (I can search and book because I'm VIP Gold they told me)

Then I found a week and time that matched up and I found the following:

(No way to trick the system this time)

Quiet Time

74,000K = 1 bed/studio
109,000K = 2 bed I found

So it's an equal exchange, no leeway unless you book at an RCI Points resort you can shorten the days and up the room size.

One of the customer service reps said that my 'free upgrade' as a VIP gold customer applies when at RCI but I'd have to call to get it.

What have your experience been?

Get yourself a good week that gets lots of TPU's, and you will be back in the exchange game without using Wyndham points. There are lots of great weeks that work well for RCI weeks, and you have the free account with Wyndham, so might as well make good use of it. :)

I do have one week for trading. But I won't purchase any additional weeks for trading.

Trading with RCI now seems the same as trading with Trading Places (the other trading company that I as a Hawaii location owner in Outrigger club can use also). I'm not saving cost with less points. So the only time now that I will trade is when I am trying to go somewhere that Wyndham doesn't have resorts.

It now comes down to the Trading Power. I have a friend with a fixed week that only has a trading power of 13..... NOWHERE!! He also has a unit in Kissimmee with a trading power of 36.... EVERYWHERE. He says he has booked two weeks with the 36 and still has 8 left over. More exchange fees, but turning one week of maintenance fees into 3 weeks of vacation is awesome.
