I'm not familiar with that resort but in most cases you can put it on Ebay for $1 to get rid of them.

You may want to find out if the ownership is deeded, or if it's a 'Right-To-Use'. For the former, they should list it and try to give it away. If it's a RTU, just stop paying and it'll go back to the resort.

Have no first hand knowledge..was advised place needs some TLC...reviews on RCI still strong..They just want out..

Assuming there is no mortgage, there is no reason to file bankruptcy over this. As noted above, either stop paying the maintenance fees or sell the timeshare.
