I went to a Villa group presentation, we enjoyed our stay and almost purchased retail. Since then I have been shopping around to see what I can get from a reseller.

I found the following
1,000 pts RTU ends 2040

after commission, closing costs, contract processing, transfer fee and estoppel it would be close to $2000.

That looks like a summer contract. With a 1000 points you would be able to book a studio between May and October.

It says weeks 1-52, I don’t believe I’m limited to summer but do understand winter requires more points per night. Do you find that 1000 points wouldn’t be enough? I am new to traveling and am unmarried without children. But I would like to have family join me on some trips.

I agree with @CPNY that you should fill out the "What to Buy" survey on this site. You will get a lot of excellent suggestions.

That being said I own a 1,000 point contract with the Villa Group. The one you're looking at may be different but here's how mine works: I have an annual maintenance fee. So it's not a Right To Use contract. It covers, as mentioned, May thru October. I can book a studio. I can also bank my weeks (up to 2 years of weeks) if I decide I can't use my week this year. I have done this due to the pandemic. The catch is that I can not combine last year's and this years weeks to get a larger unit. I can only book more weeks. I can also borrow from the back end of the contract as long as I pay the maintenance fee. It's also affiliated with Interval International. But, being only a studio, there's not a lot of buying power. There is one perk, however, that I truly like. When I pay my maintenance fee I automatically get annual travel insurance. And, for an additional $15, I get the premium version of that travel insurance. The premium version provides for emergency medical coverage and repatriation if necessary when visiting any Villa Group property. The basic coverage (trip interruption, lost luggage, etc.) kicks in whenever I travel more than 100 miles from my home.

Is what you're looking at a good buy? Nothing is a good buy if you can't/don't use it. You have to judge, based upon your travel needs, if a studio with low trade value and no upgrade option would work for you. For my wife & I it has. We have enjoyed their Cabo & Cancun resorts and are looking to go to their Puerto Vallarta location next year. In our case we purchased where we like to stay with a few options available.

Thank you for the insight! I most likely will travel the Mexico locations and not necessarily trade. Do you know if I were to bank points can I use them to get multiple units?

Yes. With banking or borrowing from the back end of the contract you can book multiple units for the same week.

I would not buy a VPA or any other points contract from UVCI without knowing if the points stay as points or if they revert to a home resort premiere membership with a high maintenance fee. I would not but any membership that is a floating summer week.

The best that can be purchased resale are gold memberships and premiere memberships , one or two bed, winter week. If the contract doesn't begin with 16- then that would allow reservations at the Loreto resort along with Cabo, Arco, Flamingos, Puerto Vallarta and Cancun.

I did not know that little tidbit about the contract not starting with 16-. Good to know. Thanks @easyrider .
