I just went through a Starwood presentation, we said no but they sold us some explorer package 7nights/8days + 50k starpoints for roughly 2750. The only catch is that we would have to go through the 90minute presentation again when we came back to the maui. I was told also that the package cost would be deducted if we decided to buy a vacation package. We have 10 days to rescend...

Westin North Villas Maui 1 bedroom studio ocean view I believe...

I just started looking up timeshares, now im thinking of looking at resale timeshares based on what i have read so far.

You cannot buy a studio at the Maui Resorts - they were sold as 2 bdm. lock-offs, and one bedrooms. I would not buy a 1 bdm. - the MF is nearly as high as the 2 bdm!

Consider buying a mainland Starwood resort with Staroptions and a lower MF and trade in with Staroptions for half the cost. (Like Kierland Villas.)

Or, you can buy a nearly free Starwood resort without Staroptions and trade in through Interval International for a fraction of the cost. (Like Sheraton Desert Oasis)

Thanks Denise,

I guess I had 2 questions:

1. 7nights/8days + 50k starpoints for $2750 a good value?

2. Should I look at resale vs buying at westin?

I was not planning on buying a "timeshare/vacation package" in maui, I was looking to get 1 bedroom ocean fron in cancun since you get the same points for half the cost and half the maintenance fees.

You can rent a studio directly from an owner for $1,200 less.

See my suggestions in the post above - the maintenance fee is really expensive at the Maui resorts.

I would NOT buy at the Cancun resort - period. It is a super easy trade, and cheap rental, and you can buy these units on ebay for nearly nothing. The minute you buy this and walk out the door your multi-thousand dollar purchase will be worth zero on the resale market. You can buy a $1 trader on ebay and trade into this resort.
