Is there a fast method for getting files off an old computer?

I have about 20 gigs of photos on my old computer. I'd like to get them off so that I can sell the old 'puter. The cd burner on that machine will only burn at 4X. To make it worse, I didn't get a new monitor when I built the new machine, so I have to switch towers when I move the photos to cds.
Is there a faster way to do this?
Thanx,
Ron

Assuming your old PC has USB ports, the quickest method would be an external hard drive. Simply copy the files to the external drive, plug the drive into the new computer and away you go.

You could install your old hard drive as a second hard drive in the new computer and do a direct copy from one drive to the other and then put it back in the old computer. You might consider keeping your old hard drive as a backup. I have done this for years and it makes backing up much quicker and easier and gives me some peace of mind. If you do sell your old computer, be sure to do a thorough wipe of the hard drive or you may leave personal data on there that you don't want someone else to have. Just a delete does not do the job

Do you have a home network? If so, and you can hook both up at the same time, I'd suggest the following:

1. Startup your old computer (w/ monitor attached)
2. If possible, consolidate all your photos/files to one folder.
3. Right-click on the folder and select 'Sharing and Security...', go thru steps to share that folder.
4. Switch monitor to new system.
5. Go to My Network Places, click thru to get to that mounted folder
6. Drag files from the mounted folder to a local folder

A very good suggestion. I would possibly take it one step further. Retain the old drive anyway and purchase a new drive for the machine you are selling. Drives are cheap and it will mean there is absolutely no risk of anybody digging about into your old data.

Thanx all,
I don't have a network, and I'm not sure how to handle another hard drive from a different computer, so it looks like an external hard drive.
