Is it worth it to deposit 640 hgvc rescued points into rci

I have 5000 I rescued for use 2016 for a new 2016 total of 10000. I have an additional 640 points left that I now have to deposit into rci or use or just let expire. It costs 76 to deposit into rci.

Does anyone know the process after that and if it is worth it in your opinion? I guess it may depend on travel plans and circumstances but at this point I have no plans so just looking for general suggestions and opinions....

Thanks

I believe the $76 is the fee to rescue your points into 2016 within the HGVC reservation system. If you choose to deposit them in RCI, then that is free.

AFAIK, the same $76 fee applies to RCI deposits. Quoting from The Rules:
"RCI Deposit. Members may deposit current year ClubPoints or previously deposited ClubPoints into the RCI Exchange Program... An RCI Deposit Fee applies." -- emphasis added.

But you could book an RCI resort for a stay in a future year, and it will draw your points from the current year (plus any needed from next year), without doing a rescue/deposit.

As for whether $76 is worth it... Consider what the points would get you -- maybe 1N added to a stay? Only you can decide if that extra night is worth $76.

Depositing Remaining Club/Bonus Point into RCI

weavershome,

You may want to call a club counselor and confirm the cost to 'deposit'/'park' club or bonus points in RCI.

Speaking from personal experience, I've moved club and bonus points into RCI this year at NO COST.

However, there is a $209 reservation fee (online) or $219 (by phone) when you make a reservation.

Hope this helps a little.

It wouldn't be worth it to me unless I was making a reservation and found out I was 640 points short. The costs are just too high for rescuing.

Look at it this way. To rescue those points, it would cost about 12 cents per point. (Forget about what those points originally cost you in MFs, that is a sunk cost now.) If you know you are going to use those points next year (and not just cause you to rescue more points the following year), then 12 cents per point are fairly cheap points.

Unless you have plans to use them, it is probably a bad idea to pay for them and you will probably end up in a surplus at the end of next year with the same problems.

It sounds like you need to either vacation more, or own fewer points if you are not using over 10% of your annual allotment.

What about converting to HHonors? do those points expire?

They don't expire, but you have to convert by the end of the year prior to the points. If these are 2015 points, you cannot convert them unless you are the highest elite level. If they are 2016 points, you have until December 31, 2015 to convert them.
