We want to add a week on Oahu for our trip next Nov., 2012. Would like to get last week of Oct., 2012 this would match up to our 2 weeks on Big Island from Nov. 3 thru Nov. 17th. I keep seeing reports that state Oct. and Nov. are low demand weeks, yet RCI doesn't seem to have much if anything for that time frame. Is it too late to get a unit thats close to waikiki Beach? Should we try for either Maui or Kauai instead? I do see various units on those 2 islands. Have all of the resorts already done their bulk banking for 2012? I only have weeks with RCI so need to trade thru them.

Remember - the inventory that you are seeing online is the LEFTOVERS after all on-going requests have been filled. The most effective way to get an exchange is to put in an ongoing request ASAP and I definitely think you will get something.

Also - if you haven't deposited yet - consider Hawaii TS Exchange.

I like Hawaii timeshare exchange because they don't "weight" their deposits. Any deposit can trade for any exchange of the same size. You can upgrade from a 1 bdm. to a 2 bdm. for $175. To check out their inventory - go to www.htse.net and put 9999 in the top box and htse in the bottom box. Note that the online inventory is the leftovers, after ongoing requests have been filled (just like RCI and II.)

Memberships:

$49.00 - One Year

$125.00 - Three Year

$199.00 - Five Year

Exchanges:

$79 - Internal Exchange (return to home resort)

$99 - Hawaii/U.S. Mainland Resorts

$109 - International

Upgrades:

$175 - Studio to 1bdrm or 1bdrm to 2bdrm

$275 - Studio to 2bdrm

Thanks Denise. I will check it out. I'm watching Platinum as they also take my Resort.

You will have a much better chance if you put in a request.

I just snagged a week at the Wyndham Beach Walk in mid April through VRI*ity - so it's possible - they are still out there.

I'm hoping Waikiki will be nice in mid April?

Aloha Suzanne,
I just perused some RCI data that I screen scrape and save. I don't do that too often for Oahu resorts. Some observations: it appears that many Oahu resorts bulk bank about 1-1/2 years in advance (some variation). Even so, there appears to be some availability of resorts inside of ten months. These are predominantly studios. Our last trip to Oahu we bought our tickets about three months ahead during an airfare sale but didn't secure an exchange until about 3 or 4 weeks before check in. We were focused on a very small number of resorts and were willing to rent if it didn't work out.
You don't say why you want to go to Oahu and seem open to a different island. If having a solid accommodation plan before buying the plane tickets is important - or having something bigger than a studio, then perhaps expanding your search is a good idea. If you are willing to buy your plane tickets and are willing to wait until almost last week before arrival to secure an exchange in Oahu, success is probable but not guaranteed.
