We (my husband, four year-old daughter, and infant son) have a wonderful exchange (two separate units at two separate resorts) and now may not be traveling during that time. I know I can't rent out the units since they are RCI exchanges, but do members ever swap exchanges? Is that even allowed? (I'm not looking for trouble, just wondering what you would do.)

What do you do when you have a great unit booked and then can't use it?

Here's the situation. We have a week this [month deleted] at [resort name edited] in a one bedroom and then a second week at [reosrt deleted] on I-Drive in a two-bedroom. We are/were THRILLED with these trades and 100% planned on using them for ourselves. I am a school teacher so we made these for July. I used my Wyndham points (121,000) and then I also had an old deposit that was expiring in July and I used that for the second week.

Since then we have seriously considered me taking next year off. With that being the case, we'd likely travel in September instead of July. (We are using the military ticket deal and would travel before they expire on September 30.) We have the weeks of my birthday and my son's first birthdays (in July) booked and I was excited about that.

Our units are paid for and we have money set aside for our tickets. We also have a good ammount on Disney gift cards and Disney rewards. The trip is pretty much paid; however, saving money will be important since I'll be taking an unpaid leave.

I would still like to go to Disney regardless of if it is July or September. WWYD?

ETA: I do not have trip protection on either trade.

I would use the weeks as originally planned. September is almost as hot as July.

I think there are rules against trading exchanges, I guess it's a matter of opinion, but I see nothing wrong with it. No money exchanges hands, but both people do gain value in the trades, so maybe that's where the rule comes in.

I'm leaning toward that, too. We're in Central Illinois and July here is just as hot as July in Orlando (and often as humid). September is much more enjoyable here. I think my husband's argument would be more about the crowds. We've always used touring plans and done ok. This will be our second trip as a family. I was thinking that if we save enough money while I'm off, maybe we could go again in April or early May of 2013 and then that would be our trip for the year. We both just thought it would be neat to get to go during a slow time.

Hello,

Thank you for your e-mail.

There is nothing wrong with two members "exchanging their
confirmations." You would just need to have the member request a Guest
Certificate for the units into which they would not actually be
checking-in.

Kind Regards,

I'd would just go in july.

Because:

If you traded you would still be out of pocket for Guest Certificates.

If you cancelled and rebooked, you would exchange fees over again.

Perhaps the stars won't align and get you 2 great trades back to back.

I not sure I understand how shifting to September is going to be much cheaper.

As the expensive things are disney passes, then tied perhaps timeshare costs and feeding yourself on Park/at Condo for two weeks. Food and tickets are not any cheaper in September.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.
