I've noticed that only wyndham and Worldmark have resorts in the south pacific. also, for several reasons I am starting to believe marriott is the better timeshare. But I notice it does not have resorts in the south pacific. What is the best trading company to use with a Marriott timeshare and how expensive is it? Thanks Kelly

Marriotts do not have, as yet, an internal trading system. We are stuck with Interval International to trade to other Marriotts and non-Marriotts alike.

Marriotts are wonderful timeshares. They are only second to my DVC, Disney Vacation Club, but still outstanding timeshares (others will chime in here against DVC but we love it) They must be because we own 7 Marriott weeks.

Thanks.

So are you saying that if you buy a resort in Maui, and decide to stay in another resort one year, let's say in Florida and both are Marriott resorts you have to go through II? How much does that usually run? Does it cost more to trade to a non-marriott resort? Thanks. Kelly

It costs $99 to trade within Marriott with II. $139 outside for domestic exchanges.

No, you don't have to go through II.

Marriott is affiliated with II. There are a few older Marriotts that trade through both RCI and II, but most trade only through II. That doesn't stop you from using one of the independent exchange companies. However, they are much smaller and generally don't have anywhere near as much available inventory as II.

Phrased differently, once you reserve the floating week that you own, you can do almost anything you want with it. You can occupy it, you can rent it to someone else, you can rent it through Marriott (if Marriott will accept it), you can let a friend or relative use it, you can exchange it through II, you can exchange it through a smaller independent exchange company or you can exchange it directly with another timeshare owner that you find. Or if you buy directly from Marriott, you can exchange the use of the week for Marriott Rewards points.

Does it cost to trade with II?

I'm confused since two messages were conflicting. One says it costs $99 to trade internally with II in Marriott. The other says there is no fee to trade with Marriott internally? Do both agree that it costs $139 to trade externally? Thanks.

It costs $99 to trade in II for Marriott to Marriott exchanges. I just requested one today and they billed my Visa card.

Hopefully this will clarify for you. If you trade for another marriott with II, it cost $99. If you trade for a non-Marriott with II, it will cost $139. In terms of trading companies, most marriotts, you use II for trading. Unless your buying a older marriott that has affiliation with both RCI & II most likely you will use II for trading.

The other option like DaveM stated, you can go to an independent exchange co. like SFX or www.ownertrades.com but they are much smaller and do not have the inventory that II has.

yeah, II will charge your card 99.00 right away for an ongoing request. I don't know if they give it back if you don't get what you requested.

The cost is $154 to trade outside your country as stated in the Marriott FAQs.

Yes, they will refund your fee. Unless you are doing a request first, you will want to try a different exchange, so you can simply add dates or resorts to the request. If you call II they will cancel the exchange and refund your money.

Wait - so if your request doesn't come through, you get your money back? Then what do you do with your deposited week?

You can add other Marriotts as desired exchanges for the same 99, right? I haven't added any resorts other than Marriotts in my request due to the extra 50 - but would be happy in Westin, etc. Just seems Marriott/Marriott is easier.

Your deposited week is gone once you deposit it. However, you have up to 2 years after the date of your deposited week to make an exchange. For instance, if you deposited a July 10, 2008 week, you will have up til July 10, 2010 to make an exchange. This does not mean 2 years from the date you actually deposit the week,

Once you add non-Marriott properties to your exchange request you will be charged the extra $50. If you end up getting a Marriott, they will not refund the extra $50. That's why I usually don't mix Marriott and non-Marriott properties in my requests.
