Is is possible to use our Garmin lifetime maps with the actual car navigation system?

So we really like the format of the maps that come with our Garmin GPS system, which comes with lifetime maps. However we bought cars that have their own navigation systems and CDs with maps, but we like the Garmin maps better. Is it possible to burn a CD somehow with Garmin maps and use that in our car navigation?

You need to find out what kind of GPS was installed in your car and call that company to see if you can import maps. Also, you would probably have to buy maps from Garmin to do it. Also, call Garmin to see what maps they use. I think they buy them from a third party and don't make them. It doesn't sound easy and I never heard of anyone doing this.

One thing about all the electronics coming out on new cars is that they will be obsolete long before the car gets old. Ford is adding a lot of gee whiz stuff to their new cars and having a lot of complaints about them holding up. It is nice to have when it is new, but I can't see spending a lot of money on it when buying a new car.

Many of these maps come from Maptec and can be ordered online. Except Toyota. Go to www.navigation.com for sales and more information.

I doubt you can burn a CD/DVD with info from your lifetime map subscription and transfer to the built-in navigation system, though.

I know it's possible to burn a map from a new toyota to use in an older model.
But I'd imagine the operating system that each uses would be different when going across brands. Even from a 2006 to 2010 there were some minor issues and I needed to flash the new OS on to the system before the maps would load.

We'll see what we can find out, I know you can buy a CD for the Garmin maps, whether or not it will work in the BMW, that's another question. Thanks.
