Interesting. I bought a bonus week from them and the resort had a fee that wasn’t in the paperwork. I argued with the resort at checkin. They said to call 7Across, since the fee was RCI policy. Back home 7A said they knew nothing about the fee. They certainly should have! I argued with the resort again and got a refund. I told them they need to communicate with each other better.

Who gets the fee? The resort or RCI? IIRC the resort gets the fee. If it’s not in the paperwork I wouldn’t have paid it either. 7across may be owned by RCI but they’re operated as a separate entity . Some resorts will selectively charge a resort fee for certain types of bookings, like DRI for RCI exchangers in Sedona. What was the resort? Seems to me they were trying to pocket a fee they weren’t entitled to.

It was actually a 3 night getaway at Massanutten. I misspoke. It was a cleaning fee due the resort. However, the building was 2/3 empty, so as I argued, our stay did not result in an extra cleaning by the employees. But mostly, fees should be transparent. I knew about the $7 daily charge everyone gets, so I didn’t fuss about that. I heard another lady shocked by $192 in fees for their two units that was not in their paperwork. And when anyone is checking in, they are pretty much hostage to pay what is demanded by the resort.

We exchanged into Massanutten last November thru DAE. We did pay the resort fee, but it was disclosed before booking. I know that RCI points stays are subject to a cleaning fee but you were basically a renter. You didn't rent directly from the resort but unless 7across disclosed the cleaning fee for a short stay at the time of booking I don't think you are liable for it. If someone rents directly from the resort are they subject to the fee?

If someone rents directly from the resort the $200-$400 per night pays any housekeeping fee for a less than 1 week stay (it's built into the rental rate) but the resort fee is added. Any inventory that 7across gets is likely owner deposit or inventory given to rci that rci gave to 7across. Owners are charged a housekeeping fee if they split up their week.

If it's 7across or RCI renting a portion of the deposited week then they should be disclosing the fee or including it in the cost of the rental. I don't blame the resort for charging the fee. As a renter I just want to know what my costs are, with all fees and taxes disclosed.
