Is checking in a day late a problem?

I have a 7 day stay booked at the Marriot Saint Kitts that starts on a Friday. My buddy and I are going and he is going to work remotely from there. He is low on actual vacation days so he would prefer not to travel on Friday, but instead travel on a Saturday. Do timeshares require you to check in on the first day? Do I just reach out to the resort and let them know I will be a day late?

You are not required to check-in on the day-of.
However, if you plan to arrive later than the check-in date, you need to inform the resort of your projected date of arrival.

I did this in Costa Rica and I notified the resort ahead of time and this was not an issue.

Agree with above posts. Just let resort know and it’s not an issue.

The best part of checking in a day late is your room will be ready if you arrive early.

Please call / and email the resort and let them know you are checking one day late.
Suggestion only ask the resort for your room number assessment to be better safe than sorry without a room assessment. IMHO.

I've also done this many times both arriving early and leaving early. I always let the resort know and I've never had a problem.

Marriott won’t rent out your unit when your staying on your owned time or points stay, so it will sit there unused. Even when you leave early the unit sits empty.
Still, as a courtesy I call and let them know I’m arriving a day late and I also tell them when I’m leaving a day early. We’ve recently been taking late afternoon flights home a day early so we don’t have issues picking up our dog from the kennel. Late afternoon flights also tend to be less expensive for the routes we fly

Re. St. Kitts, specifically: you will be well served arriving a day late. We had to wait so long for our villa (well past 5pm), along with many other guests — as evidenced by the lines of everyone’s luggage sat in the lobby this spring, that I booked a room on the hotel side for the first night of a return trip.

It was well worth making the bonvoy points booking, to be assigned a room early, retain it until our villa was ready the next day, and to enjoy the hotel breakfast (the latter two aspects due to Titanium status).

I would try to get there as early as possible to avoid everyone else checking in at 4. Make sure you tell the resort that you plan on checking in at a certain time to ensure that your villa is ready (as it should be since you normally would have been there on Friday).

To be clear, if you leave early, you're not going to get points back for the nights that you did not stay. This is in contrast to a hotel stay, where if you leave early, you would not normally be charged for the unused room nights, unless you violate a minimum-number-of-nights stay condition of a special room rate.

We have also done this several times, will again on an upcoming trip. These were not at Marriotts. The "best" was when we were staying someplace in Kissimee. They had called to set up a sales meeting with us. My husband set the date and time..............for a day after we were going to be leaving. Kept them from continuing to bother us, lol.
