I booked a MVC resort for next June, 2027 for Maui Ocean Club. I'm not sure why but I bough E-Plus as well. We are thinking to switch and try to get one of the Marbella resorts instead. I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle this. I know I can just keep checking and then using an E-Plus trade, if something opens up, but then I cannot use an OGS. I believe I can call II can cancel my booking, get a trade reserve week, and then start an OGS right; but I lose the E-Plus? I also have two other II deposits that I could run an OGS with; but then if my OGS results in a booking, what can I do with the Maui booking? The E-plus says it expires 6/13/2028, so I could just book something before right, but even using all three trades I have to book a week before that date? The original week was MGC 4/4/2026 1bed.

If you are within 24hrs (weekdays) of having the exchange confirmed then you can cancel it, and the e-plus and redo the request. You can cancel via email, and then call when the offices are open to confirm it and amend your request.

If, you can't cancel, I'd use the Maui week to look for something else, and use one of your other weeks to put an OGS in for Marbella, if you are after Spain in June 2027, then get your OGS in quick and give it the best trading power that you can as that's a more difficult exchange due to the relative scarcity of the inventory at that time of year.

I think the theory of cancel and get a replacement week works, but not sure I've seen much real world experience (I have none) of that specific scenario.

Is your week enrolled?

You could conceivably do a simple swap of your Maui week for a Marbella week by finding a Marbella week owner who is willing to go to Maui.
(OF COURSE they would jump at that, I would think.)
It's not a rental, so all you have to do is do mutual Guest Certificates, no money involved.
It doesn't break any Interval rules as far as I know.

I believe you would have more luck doing a mutual exchange than jumping thru hoops by cancelling
and using another trade which might end up not materializing.
You'd have to make double sure of such a transaction, vetting that Marbella owner 100%, but it might suit your needs.
I did an exchange once to visit Maui Ocean Club by giving one of my ownership weeks at Hilton Head's Grande Ocean to the owner at MOC,
and it worked our fine.

EDIT: Looking and thinking back, it did not involve Interval at all---I misspoke---it involved no trades at all, just a swap of ownership weeks.
That is what TUG actually advertises, and what we did. The resort front desks knew exactly what we did because we were both allowed to check in normally.

Giving a guest certificate in exchange for the value of another guest certificate would violate II's terms. No consideration can be given for a guest certificate. In your example both owners would violate the terms, as they each received something in exchange for the reservation/guest certificate.

Wow, there is a place on TUG which facilitates/encourages exchanges or swaps, so that either has changed
or maybe I was mistaken about how we actually did it back then.....It did NOT involve Interval Int'l at all when it happened.
My swap was a good while ago. I'll look into that or await others' interpretations to see if the definition of an exchange you referenced
precludes such an arrangement altogether, however it's done.
Maybe it wasn't actually a "guest certificate" that I did back then--I know I've never used a trade wrongly, but what we did was simply a swap of ownership weeks,
not involving a trade. I can't actually remember if it involved a "guest certificate" or not, or whatever method was required, if any.
Could have been a phone call, or a form filled out, to allow check-in by a friend....who knows?
Whatever, I'll check on what was and is now allowed, and see.
That said, I see no reason why the swap could not be done today if certain requirements are met in accordance with the rules.
Certainly one can allow a friend or family member to go and use a week owned by someone else.
I still think it can be done within the rules.....
Thanks for the info though....

I think clarification may help. People often use the term "guest certificate" when they rent, or give their MVC owner week to someone. This is not what I am referring to.

Guest Certificates, in the MVC world are those issued for an II exchange that one gifts to a guest. An II exchange guest certificate cannot be given to anyone for any type of compensation or consideration. You said "It's not a rental, so all you have to do is do mutual Guest Certificates, no money involved. It doesn't break any Interval rules as far as I know." That is what I was responding to.

An owner week swap, not involving II, is a totally different transaction that I was not referencing. You post kind of conflated the two, so it was confusing. If you are not dealing with an II exchange, my comment does not apply.

Right, my mistake...I said "Guest Certificate" when I meant something completely different. Those are relevant to Interval/ trade transactions, and not to swaps.
I should have said "adding a name to a reservation".
I definitely know the difference as I've been doing these things for decades. It was late, I knew better....just a total mis-speak.

I have never purchased an II E-Plus but when I spoke to the II rep two weeks ago she stated one benefit of E-Plus is the ability to take an exchange that has been confirmed over 24 hours and give it back to II to perform an OGS again with a trading power of the original week given/deposited into II. Without E-Plus, we Marriott owners get an replacement week (for $0) to place another OGS, but this replacement week's trading power can/will likely be weaker than the original week you gave/deposited into II. Does this sound right from others' experience?

Since your week isn't enrolled, Eplus does have benefits. If it were enrolled in Abound, then much of the benefit of Eplus is lost since enrolled weeks get $0 exchange fees.

I can't recall which it is, but I have read that cancellation replacement deposits from an unenrolled exchange either lose Marriott preference or lose the Marriott to Marriott exchange fee discount.

My experience here is from some years ago but at that time the cancellation replacement week for an unenrolled week maintained priority, exchange discount, and the same trading power as the original week. An exchange fee needed to be paid when the replacement week was used.
I know things have changed on II so this may no longer be so.

No it doesn’t.
You can always cancel an exchange and take a replacement week- whether you have eplus or not.
You can request with the replacement week and last I knew it maintained all the characteristics of your original week.
If the week is unenrolled or you exchange out of brand an exchange fee is needed to use the replacement week. (Getting the week is free, using it costs).

Last I knew having purchased eplus did not affect the rules of replacement weeks.
As noted above, it is certainly possible things have changed but this was my experience.
I have also experience CSR who have been unclear or mistaken so you might what to call again and see what the next one says.

I think something to note about a replacement week is that you get 1 year to exchange, and this may end up being shorter than the expiration on the original week if you don’t cancel and look for another exchange. I might be wrong, someone please confirm.

Good point, the other option is to do a regular (non- eplus) retrade. That can be done up to the weeks’s expiration, but of course needs to be done before the current exchange date and you would have to find what you want sitting in inventory.

Replacement week expiration is 1 year from the date you call to cancel so you could wait until nearing the current exchange date.
And if you have eplus you could play all those out and then cancel and thst the 1 year replacement week.

If I remember correctly flexchange restrictions apply so you need to keep a watch on the dates.

My week is enrolled, which is the reason we never purchased EPlus given that enrolled weeks get free II retrades (for other Marriott properties) . But the rep saying that one benefit of EPlus is it allows you to retain the original week's trading power when returning a week gotten from an OGS match was new to me.

Is there a primer on EPlus somewhere in this forum? I have enrolled weeks but never used EPlus. I know when I exchange, it always asks if I want to purchase EPlus. Isn't here a time limit when you must decide whether or not to purchase Eplus? (I'm sure it passed for me already.)

I'm a bit curious now because I've gotten 2 exchanges at Grand Ocean for the same week in April to accommodate my family for a family vacation. One was for a Saturday check-in and the other was for a Sunday check-in. Ideally I would like to have the same check-in date for both, and Sunday is the better day because airfare is much cheaper on that Sunday (which is the last day of the RBC Heritage golf tournament). But I am content to leave things as-is. I would never give one of the weeks back just to try to get a different check-in day.

I am not aware of a primer. Though II may have some more information on their website. You have up to 14 days after exchange confimration to purchase EPlus. YOu then have up to 14 days prior to checkin to do an Eplus retrade. I don't see any need to add it to enrolled Marriott to Marriott/Vistana exchanges. The exception may be to use it to extend a deposit. If your desired checkin date does come up, you can just go out and do a $0 retrade.

Well, I had another 1bd MGC week in an OGS and just landed the week we wanted for June next year in Playa Andalusia. So, looks like I'll be making use of this thread to retrade Maui (and plan to do Maui with just tWife and I later). I have another OGS for a spring break week and might just ride this Maui week and retrade it until March 2028 opens up.
