We're considering taking on a timeshare for the purpuse of exchanging through II, and are reviewing their resort list. Would love to hear about your favorite resorts that you've exchanged for through II. Thank you!

Renting through II? They do have Getaways, which are generally inventory in overbuilt areas and at times of year that are slower, generally.

We like owning lockoff units and exchanging cheaply. Sheraton Broadway Resort has lockoff units and will give you two exchanges per year. One side is a full one bedroom, second side is a studio.

Any Marriott platinum season week works even better than Sheraton Broadway Resort.

You have to join II, pay the membership fee, we pay for Platinum level of membership. The exchange fee from Marriott-Sheraton/Westin or vice versa is $164. Upgrade fees of $59 do apply for unit sizes with platinum membership.

That's it in a nutshell for us. We have owned generic resorts and still have two generics in North Carolina and are getting rid of them. No reason to pay maintenance fees on weeks that have weak trading power.

If you are only looking to buy ("rent") getaways, consider buying an every-other-year timeshare. Or alternatively, buy a timeshare, get an Interval membership and then sell that timeshare. Interval doesn't seem to care as long as you don't let your membership lapse.

If your choice of the word "renting" instead meant "exchanging" then please clarify.

Me? I've exchanged to Marriott Maui Oceanclub, The Pointe at Poipu, Waiohai, Marriott Kauai Beach Club, Marriott Newport Coast Ca., Hyatt Highlands Inn (Carmel, Ca.), Marriott Canyon Villas (Phoenix), Four Seasons Troon (Scottsdale), Palm Desert, Hyatt Pinon Pointe, The Ridge at Sedona Golf, The Summit (Sedona), Marriott Timberlodge (Tahoe), Hyatt Northstar (Tahoe), Harbortown Point (Ventura) and a few others.

Thanks so much for pointing that out! I've clarified the post. We are looking at exchanging through II.

Wow did not realize there is a exchange for Carmel. Love reading random post and learning something new. May I ask your exchange for this? What did you exchange with/Time of the year - 1br or 2br? and whatever info you can giveme about the Hyatt Highlands Inn.

The question in a vacuum is not really meaningful and any answer will not inform you well. The are a million variables as to whether you can trade into a resort in the II directory. Primarily it is the quality of what you deposit and the quality of what you want and season. The quality of a unit you buy is usually proportionate to what you pay.

You would be better off describing what you plan to buy and what you are hoping to trade into. There is a lot of collective wisdom and history in trading in II here, but without the above info you won't get good responses.

It's a tough exchange. Enter an ongoing search with broad dates, and you might get lucky. We exchanged into Hyatt Carmel with our Sheraton weeks. I rarely see weeks sitting online. Ongoing searches will work better, and it's good to use the best trader you have.

All of the Marriott resorts I have stayed in are pretty great. My favorites so far are Aruba Surf Club, Ocean Pointe, OceanWatch & Newport Coast. If you want to trade into prime Marriott resorts and seasons though I would recommend buying a good Marriott trader. The Marriott trade preference makes a huge difference in getting into the highest demand resorts during busier times.

Thats such helpful advice. Thank you! We're looking at a 2-BR lockoff prime at an II elite ski resort, and hoping to be able to trade into Disney, among others.

I have received a match 5 times but because of Covid I had to cancel a December. So I've exchanged there 4 times in 15 years. I've used a 1 BR Desert Springs to do the exchange.

December, May, June, and August were the times we went there.

Lately it seems like it is much more difficult to get an exchange. Perhaps others can explain why.

Trading into Disney is possible. If you join TUG there is a sightings board where people post the good stuff they see available as traded in Interval and there is a thread dedicated to Disney resorts specifically. So you can see historically what Disney has shown up available for trades to get an idea of what is likely.

I agree that joining as a member ($15) would serve you well. You would have access to the TUG reviews of pretty much any timeshare you where you can stay. There is a category for best Interval International resorts. And I agree with @jwalk03 , the sightings board will help you see what others have seen available for exchange.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't love large resorts and we frequently stay at a resort based upon location vs amenities. So my favorites may not be your favorites. Spending some time reading the TUG reviews would probably be more helpful to you than anything else. Good luck.
