Hi all,

I want to use Sheraton Flex option points in an exchange in II. What I was told on the phone if I don't buy their insurance, I can only cancel within 24 hours of making the request/exchange. If I needed to cancel I would lose the exchange fee and all the points exchanged. If I purchase their insurance according to them I can cancel at any time and get my exchange fee back and all my Flex options. Anyone had any experience with this?

I think you can only cancel for a covered reason if a covered event has occurred if you buy the insurance, not just cancel any time you want.

Pay the $89 for the e-plus. You can re-trade up to 3 times for no additional cost. Then if you plans change you can just re-trade the week to something else. Do note that if you re-trade inside of 60 days you will be restricted to flex-change only.

If you cancel for a covered reason with II insurance, I believe they value your exchange at $1000 and I am not sure if that includes the exchange fee or not. So you would not get your points back you would get a check for the covered amount.

I tried this and it really doesn't give you a lot of choices when you retrade. It is a pain to do it because you can only go up to 2 months ahead, not a year. Truly it is better to just cancel 61 days before the booking. that will give you an extension of a year to use that week/points and you get more choices.

you don't need to buy the insurance. If you cancel 61+ days before your booking arrival, the points/week are returned to you and you will be able to book a different week/points within a year, paying a new transfer fee. Yes, you will need to pay that fee when you rebook, but you have a year to book the new reservation.
