This is a newbie type question, but I'm looking for confirmation. I rarely use Interval anymore, and I couldn't locate a definitive answer in the search I did here.

If I lock off an enrolled unit, then deposit/exchange the 1-bed unit in Interval, should that exchange automatically get the E-plus option without cost? I believe it should, but I just did such a deposit/exchange, and was offered E-plus for $89 (I think). So I'm a bit confused.

Should future retrades of that unit be free to me?

Future retrades will be free if you are exchanging to Marriott. Otherwise you will need e-plus if trading to non-Marriott. Admittedly I am a newb and can be wrong.

Its not e-plus without cost, its no cost exchanges and retrades to other MVC, Sheraton and Westin resorts. To do the no fee retrade, you just go to history, find the exchange and the select retrade and search, and then as you proceed through the booking process, you'll see that there is no retrade fee.
You can still buy e-plus, it will be offered, but wouldn't need to unless you wanted to exchange outside the "family" or unless you wanted to extend the validity of the expiry of the deposit.

If you plan on retrading to Marriott/Sheraton/Westin, you do not add ePlus option. All retrades are free back to MVC properties. However, if you want to retrade to a non MVC property, you should add ePlus fee. Having said that, you don't need to add the ePlus now. Down the road if you see a non-MVC property that you want to trade into, you can retrade to a MVC property, so that the ePlus option comes up again (expires after 14 days of a trade). Add the ePlus then, before retrading to a non-MVC property. It saves you the ePlus fee if you don't retrade into a non-MVC later on.

They all said it way better than I did.

Thanks to all of you for your detailed responses! We usually go to Marriott properties, so I think we are good for now.

You don’t have to buy eplus until you make the trade you want use it for (you now have 14 days after confirmation to do so).
When you place a request be sure to only include abound properties to avoid paying the exchange fee.

Whenever I put an exchange request in for Marriott only properties, why do they normally ask me if want to purchase E-Plus ?

It is just the standard exchange flow that every II member sees when putting in a request or booking an exchange.

They don't know if you want to add e-plus to extend your deposit expiry or not. Same as they offer a guest cert, as they don't know if you are going to want/need that or not.
... plus it generates revenue selling something that people don't know they don't need. Like so much in the timeshare world.....

IMO it's mainly for the income.
