Hi,

I was thinking of buying Hyatt Pinon Point and trading internally to the Hyatt Ka'anapali.

Has anyone traded internally - I would think only Ka'anapali owners would be able to get weeks.

It can be done, but it's not easy. Best strategy is to sign onto the HRC website exactly at six months out from your check-in date to see if there is availability. Also, since you're not an owner, you stand a good chance of getting assigned to a mountain view unit.

Many of us have gotten internal trades to HKB, so it is certainly possible. That said, remember that--once the storm clouds clear from this virus--there will be huge pent-up demand for vacation travel, making landing a trade in the near term much more difficult.

It is doable if you are flexible. If you need school vacations or holidays I would not count on it. Most owners rent their week if they don't use it. For retired or self employed folks who make their own schedule it makes sense

Hyatt's points are 'neutral' in that when you have enough points (2,200 for 2 br. with 100 units and 1,450 for 1 br. with about 19 units) you can waitlist 18 months ahead.
Last year from my two 1,400 points weeks (1,400 and 800) I secured a 2 br. for the week after 4th of July. I was confirmed 6 months ahead as that is when the owner's right to occupy their week expires (HRPP). This means if they forget to reserve their $60 to $100 week they do NOT get to occupy and the first in line does.
Most Hyatt owners I've sold in 17 years do not have 2,200 points so this is an advantage with mostly 2 br. here. No real low season but spring and fall have lower demand; still basically 100% full in Maui and especially here year round. Of course, prior to Covid and hopefully not for much longer...

Yes it is possible. Very hard. I recently got on the wait list 18mo out. And nothing. I was trying to get Christmas, so really hard time. But I was on the phone w Hyatt editing my waitlist and she told me someone had just dropped their week, caller before me. But it was for the week ahead of Christmas. So we decided to book it. We have two contracts (2000pts and 1400pts). So we finally got it! Now we just have our fingers crossed they open and keep open till year end!

Not as difficult to get a 2 bedroom. There are less inventory for 1 bedrooms
