According to Paciifc Business News, the Aston Maui Lu hotel has "guest rooms spread across a 28-acre coconut grove on South Kihei Road." That's the same size property as Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club. Unlike Ko Olina or Kaanapali, the location in Kihei is not a fancy master-planned resort development. Even so, it seems like a good location for a Marriott Vacation Club.
Here's how I understand how Marriott Ownership Resorts, Inc. fits into the Marriot organization:
Marriott International, Inc. consists of several business segments. One of these is the timeshare segment. For legal reasons, each segment consists of a maze of subsidiaries, including all sorts of domestic and international business entities. Marriott Ownership Resorts, Inc. (MORI), based in Orlando, is the main subsidiary responsible for the timeshare segment. The brands under which the Marriott timeshare segment markets their products are Marriott Vacation Club, The Ritz-Carlton Club, Grand Residences by Marriott, and Horizons by Marriott Vacation Club.
