All,

Because of scheduling challenges for summer 2016, I have several MOC reservations because I'm not sure which week we can go. One of our reservations is across July 4th in a 2BR OF at MM1.

I know the girls want to bring friends, so I've a trade request into II, offering a deposited MM1 Studio, and seeking a MM1 Studio. I figure if I get MG/OV, I would request Lahaina for my 2BR, and if I get IV, I would request Napili for my 2BR.

Well, I got a trade today into a 1BR in MMO. I was very surprised for two reasons: 1) the studio uptraded to a 1BR and 2) my trade request was specific to MM1 because of the desire to align the buildings.

Very interesting. I'm already wobbly on the fact that the girls will be in a separate room, there is no way I am going to allow them to stay in a separate building. But I thought it was a very odd trade because of points above.

To add insult to injury, the unit trade was OBOF, so it might even have had a decent view!

But I kicked it back to II and reinitiated the search for an MM1 Studio.

Interesting stuff....this also suggests to me that Marriott is not cherry picking II deposits, because they would definitely have cherry picked a 1BR OF across July 4th week.

Best,

Greg

I've had the search going for six weeks now -- I expected it to hit earlier, honestly, but I also missed the 12 month and 13 month reservation windows when initial deposits might have been made. Let us know if you trade comes through, I would think so!

Best,

Greg

I have a 2BR MSU ocean view for next June, if I deposit it now and ask for a 2BR unit in MKO and MK1 for next August, how likely will I get the trade? Thank you!

It seems II made a change in their system a while ago, perhaps about a year, where they combined the two properties in to one resort in their directory. I think they did something similar at Manor Club. Previously the two sections were listed as two different resorts. So even if you only use the resort code for the new towers, they can still potentially match you in to the old section. You can still toss them back and I think you can also call II to say that you only want a certain resort code, but setting up a search online can allow for them to match in to any resort code that exists under that resort in the directory.

That new policy stinks. Both Maui Ocean Club and Manor Club have two distinct quality of accommodations, not just different views. Am I correct in assuming that this just affects ongoing searches because if you get an instant trade online (or buy a Getaway) it would be for the resort code identified?

Yes, instant exchanges you would see the two resorts as unique in the search results. When placing an OGS though, it seems that they will match to any code associated with the resort in the directory. Since it is now one combined resort in the directory, there is no way to control the specific property you confirm, unless you call.

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
You just have to know it is a possibility and be diligent checking to see if you matched to the wrong one so you can cancel. I found that once you matched a specific day and unit configuration at a resort then it would not rematch you to the same. There still are different codes but when you set up an ongoing search it will default search for both. Calling doesn't help. They will assure you that only one code is in, but the system will continue to auto match you to either.

Well, II did it again -- even though I clearly specified MM1 as my trade request, it again matched with MMO, giving me another Studio.

Very strange. It does appear that II combines the two into a single property, even when only one is specified.

I kicked it back, and again am trying for MM1.

Best,

Greg
