1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where?
We visit the Disney World area 2-3 times per year, for a total of 4-6 weeks per year.

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time?
Whatever is cheaper.

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?
n/a

4) How many people do you usually travel with - total, including yourself?
Two adults, two young children.

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?
We currently pull our kids out of school to travel, though I imagine that may be harder in a few years when the oldest enters Middle School.
We almost always travel the first or second week in December, and a couple weeks in February that include Presidents Day.

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?
No. Maximum 7-10 months. Often enjoy making my plans just a few days in advance.

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?
Yes, typically 2-3 weeks.

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?
Just want a clean place with a kitchen and washing machine in the unit.

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?
Not sure, let's say $10,000. Would prefer far less.

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?
Let's say $3,000. Would prefer far less.

11) Are you a detail oriented planner?
Yes

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?
Yes

Additional information:
Back in 2018-2019, a friend of mine generously allowed me to use her timeshare at Vacation Village Parkway, since she wasn't getting any use out of it. I stretched her 74,000 points into 10 weeks of last-minute trips, all at Vacation Village Parkway, all booked through RCI. This is when I started considering buying a timeshare of my own.

She got rid of that timeshare, and since then I've been spending about $700-$1500 per week to stay at Polynesian Isles Resort or The Berkley Orlando (booked through Priceline, Booking.com, etc). I chose those places because they had good reviews, were clean and spacious, and were less expensive than other options. I have an upcoming booking at Parkway International for the same reasons.

My goal is to spend less money going forward. I'd like to get the cheapest, smallest timeshare account that I can, just to get my foot in the door at RCI (or other companies) to take advantage of their last-minute discounted rooms (while minimizing ongoing maintenance expense). Is this a good strategy?

Congrats on the successful value hunt so far! Sounds like you’re looking for a 1br Grandview Las Vegas @ ~$460 MF for 61,000 RCI points or 2br Regal Vistas at Massanutten @ ~$740 MF for 89,000 RCI points.

If you don’t feel like searching high and low for those unicorns, you could easily pick up a Vacation Village at Parkway @ ~$1000 MF for 92,500 RCI points.

Thank you for the quick response!

I was considering a 1br Grandview Las Vegas Biennial @ $227 MF (annually) for 49,000 RCI points (EOY). I know the 61,000 point units are a better deal, but they seem to be as rare as hen's teeth. Is there a reason I should avoid the 49,000 point timeshares?

Also, some of the ones I'm looking at have Next Use Year as 2024, some 2025, some 2026. If I buy a 2024, how soon would those points expire? If I buy a 2025/2026, would I be able to take advantage of Last Call offers immediately, or possibly borrow from my future year?

Is there any way to search current Last Call offers, before I buy a timeshare?

Also, finally, is RCI better for the last-minute deals, or should I consider Interval?

You need to buy into Disney Vacations. Get Real -- You are not going to find Last Call Vacations at Disney resorts.

I don't stay on-property at Disney. Just the Kissimmee / Lake Buena Vista area.

DVC resorts are too expensive for my budget, even to rent the points.

He never said he needed actual Disney resorts.

Sounds like Grandview would be a good option for the OP.

If you did actually want Disney Vacation Club, you would want to buy something that trades into Disney through II. Grandview wouldn't work for you.

I am divesting of everything I can that is associated with RCI.

If you are okay with 3-star properties, I think that RCI Last Call are usually a better deal than Interval International. II Getaways are more expensive though they often give out accommodation certificates that can make them more in line with Last Call, but you may only get one or two ACs a year.

There are other clubs you can join for access to RCI last call, AFVClub.com is one if you have any military or DoD service.

I also keep up an Interval account even though I've sold the timeshare that gave me access. There are always getaway weeks and accomodation certificates ACs for Kissimmee. Pick up an EOY maybe to get access.

Parkway is in Interval, I can see cheap getaway cash weeks there:

Yea, for your use, you just need anything to get RCI, so I think 49,000 pt Granview makes a lot of sense. I don't think you're going to beat that, and the last calls in Orlando are basically always there, and always less than II getaways IMO. Even Extra Vacations (planning 6-10ish months out say) are cheaper than comparable Getaways much of the time. This is because the RCI places are firmly 3 star, but the II tend to be a little higher quality at a higher price. I did get a SVV for $800ish after tax first week of Dec 2024 in II, but I think RCI last call is unbeatable value in Orlando, you'll def see some $379 a week 2BRs...
