I am interested in buying HGVC. We went to a presentation and really liked it. If you buy resale, what don't you get? Do you become 2nd class on having a resale?
Thanks,
Maureen

We are full resale owners (we have never bought from the developer). We get the same booking and reservation windows as any other owner. The only restriction is we can’t get any Elite status with our purchases. Many don’t believe it’s worth the cost to purchase the points from the developer. You can get elite status if you buy resale directly from certain resorts (Scotland and some of the SW Florida affiliates).

We own at The Flamingo and Boulevard and have booked In Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, Elara in Vegas and Chicago. We have had great reservations in rooms that we requested. They treat us very well.

Resale is the way to go. There are several licensed brokers like Judi Koz and Diane Nadeau who can assist you with a resale purchase.

Stick around Tug. Research before you buy. Also consider renting before you buy to see what system or resort you like.

Copy and complete these questions so we can determine if HGVC or timeshares are a fit for you.

As others have said, Elite is the only thing resale doesn’t qualify for. Even those with Elite will tell you the perks are nice to have but are no way worth the cost of admission. Buying the minimum 14,000 for the lowest level of Elite from HGVC direct will run at least $75,000.

Thank you! This is very helpful! Will you automatically get access to Diamond Resorts with resale?

Ditto, HGVC treats resale owners very well in comparison to the other hotel branded timeshare groups.

No the Diamond purchase is too new. No one really knows how, when the integration between systems will occur. Or how much it will cost to get access to the others' resorts. I'm fairly sure there will be a charge...

What is Elite?

When you purchase enough points from the developer, you achieve different tiers of Elite benefits. Each tier has more and more perks. I have linked the benefits here. The cost, as @RX8 mentioned above, is very high and many, my wife and I included, don’t feel it’s worth it.
