When I was first interested in the Lagoon Tower, Hilton gave me 6 nights of ocean front 2-bedroom with car for $1799. Just the obligatory sales presentation.

I’m an owner now at Marriott in Maui, both old and new buildings. I’ve got a friend that’s very interested in buying something. I suggested that if he can get one of the sale presentation deals it would be a great cost-effective way to check it all out, then he can buy on the secondary market.

What Marriott deals are there? Who or How do I go about getting him hooked up for a “trial” (like the encore deals) at Marriott in Maui?

Those deals usually are a "don't call us, we'll call you" type. Marriott or Westin will send you the offer and then you can take advantage of it, or you are usually on a sales presentation and they will offer you one of those deals.

What he has to do is vacation at a location, sign up for the presentation and then decline their offer at which time they will offer the encore. Not sure how you get the encore without the first presentation.

Oddly, when I try I get an error message that the Marriott Website is experiencing technical problems. Tried this morning and again this evening.

Odd. Here’s a guy with ample money that’s very interested in buying a timeshare (three of his friends, including myself, own there) but would like to see it, etc. The ideal intro-deal candidate. Of course, there’s no chance he’s buying from the developer, but they don’t know that.

He can always visit a resort near him and take a tour. I’ve done that and they may offer him an encore package then.

It works for me using Safari and Chrome.

They have a lot of info on who's likely to buy. My guess is that someone who contacts them for a high demand area has a low likelihood of buying compared to the average tour.
