Insurance on unused bonus points

This September, we used about 525 points (cannot remember exactly) for 3 nights at the Fairway Villas. On our second day, we received a call that required us to rush home. We had purchased insurance so submitted a claim - even though we were using points from the 800 Bonus Points pile. We were called today - they have settled on the value of the 3 nights there being worth $165 total, so we were prorated $55 (and change). The insurance for the year cost us more than that - but at least we got something back. I am just posting this in case anyone was curious - I doubt this happened to anyone else. We had been told that the unused points could not be re-deposited, and we had not really enough of anything, nor available time, to use the remainder anyway. No complaint here (except we though this was kinda cheap) - just info, in case someone else finds that they need to cancel a portion of a DC points-based trip and file insurance. Perhaps *earned* or traded DC points are worth more?

I would think legacy or trust points would be valued at the underlying MFs. Since the pionts were free, or part of the enrollment fee, it is harder to value those.
