I need to take a pcr test three days before surgery
the hospital will give it to me, but it is 90 minutes each way
the surgeons office will not give me a script because they offer the ocr test there
the center where I am Getting pre op will not administer the test without a script from the surgeon
mynonly option is Walgreens and they say it is not covered by insurance without a script
catch 22 in action

I know my insurance still covers PCR tests.

Our insurance (which is not good at all) very recently covered a PCR at Walgreen's.

The test center close by that I really liked to go to (because they gave a rapid and if negative followed up with a PCR (one visit)) shut down with no warning. They told me a few weeks ago they'd have 60 days notice and thought when that happened it'd be the end of them (but there didn't seem to be any notice :-( ). Our library gives out free at home rapid tests (my insurance doesn't cover the at home tests, like some do). So now I'll take a rapid home test and follow up with a PCR from Walgreen's if I need to.

The problem is all about timing on the test. Getting it done not too early but in time to be faxed to the surgery center.
the nurse for the pa who I was scheduled for pre op squuzed me in and has given me an appointment for COVID pcr test at the clinic here. By getting an order from the pa, I will be covered by insurban e. My original appointment for pre op was after I would have needed to take covid test.
