DC trust points work just like DVC points where you don't have to pay extra to make a reservation, pay housekeeping fees or pay to add someone else to the reservation. If you vacation 7 days at a time, they aren't a good value compared to other methods. Don't get me wrong, DC trust points are a better value than DVC, meaning you get nicer accommodations for less $$ compared to DVC, but if you want the most bang for your buck, you need to own Wyndham resale points or a Marriott legacy 2 bedroom lock off deed that you can split into 2 weeks and trade it with II. That ends up costing $1100 ish a week for a 2 bedroom if you do it right. You won't get access to all Marriotts whenever you want that way, only what's deposited into II, it's just a cheaper compromise.
Resale Wyndham points will get you access to whatever DVC units get deposited into RCI. I don't mind AKV, OKW and SSR, so I use my Wyndham points to exchange into DVC. Only SSR is easy to get, the other 2 you have to have an open search for months and will sometimes get lucky. I only pay $1050 a week to stay in a 1 bedroom DVC unit though.
If I were you I would inherit it just to try it out because you don't have to pay for the $6,000 resale purchase price of the points and get a free II account that you don't get with DVC. I personally decided I don't want to own DC trust points because it's super easy to just rent from an owner on here that I trust for the cost of the maintenance fees. I've been contemplating Marriott the past few weeks myself (I own Wyndham) and have decided to just buy an every other year 2 bedroom lock off at Grande Vista and just exchange it within the Florida club or on II. If there's something that I want that I can't get with II, I can get it from a DC owner that doesn't want to travel that year.
