We plan on going mid July and can snag a 2 bdrm at Marriott's Manor CLub MMC.

We will have 2 19 yr old girls with us. Is this a good choice? Have all the units been renovated?

We also could go with Bluegreen's Patrick Henry 2 bdrm.

Not sure what is best. Any insight would be wonderful.

THanks - Maryk

I own 3 platinum weeks there. Have owned for many years and haven't missed a year going since I bought. The setting is terrific in the centre of a 54 hole golf course Fords Colony. I like MMC better than MSE (the lock off section) as its got a more 'Virginian' look and closer to the amenities and office. There's a small pool and indoor pool there, and a much larger pool across the street at the MSE section so you have a choice...nice as it's always hot/humid there in summer. If you've never been there's history, great outlet shopping, golf, and good food. The MMC units are great...about 1350 sq feet, fully equipped with two bedrooms, washer/dryer, balcony, etc. I don't know of a nicer TS in the area. Most people going there are surprised at how beautiful it is. Busch Gardens is terrific if your gals like big rides, Waterworld nearby too...and Virginia Beach is a 45 minute drive.

We are here now and all the rooms have been updated. Our unit have brand new GE kitchen appliances ( refigator, microwave, new electric oven and a new dish washer), plus new GE washer & driver. Today the units will receiving new 49 inch televisions between 10AM & 6PM. I will update later on the brand name.

No brainer - Marriott Manor Club wins my vote over Blue Greens! (Look on Trip Advisor.)

Your girls will love Busch Gardens and Water Country! Colonial Williamsburg is also very nice and offers many historical events. On the Colonial Williamsburg website and usually also Busch Gardens website you can purchase a bounce pass which gives a weeks admission to all 3! If your girls like golf or tennis, the Manor Club has that as well. There is a movie theater at the resort, which is also nice. If they like the beach, Virgina Beach is about an hour away. Sometimes Manor Club will offer a bus trip to Washington, DC - call ahead for info.

TUG rating for Marriott Manor Club (original section) is 8.83

TUG rating for Bluegreen Patrick Henry Square is 7.25

Big difference.

I concur with others that Manor Club is far superior in so many ways.

Consistently voted among Marriott's most beautiful units.

We love Williamburg and Williamsburg area-----lots to do and see!

Just called front desk about new televisions. Televisions will be install this afternoon or Tuesday according to front desk. It is taking more then 20 minutes to install the new televisions.

Please check TUGS Resorts and Reviews for updated photos of the resort. I am having problems loading the Resorts and Reviews section for some reason.

The sequel can be 2 bedrooms, using the lock off. I was there last month and it had not been renovated. The furniture was very uncomfortable and it needed a refresh. But the resort is nice and we enjoyed the stay there very much.

MMC (the original section) is in the top 5 of the 30 MVCI resorts we have stayed at (per our personal rankings). We have stayed there five times. The Sequel (lock-off section) is "typical" Marriott--solid but much like many others. We have stayed there only once. If you have a unit in MMC, don't even consider another option in Williamsburg.

What are the pools like? Currently deciding whether to opt for Manor Club next summer or Ocean Pointe.

I'd prefer Manor Club mainly for the historical side of things in the area but my wife likes the idea of being on the beach (despite never going to the beach when we do stay at a beach resort!)

With two young children the pools at Ocean Pointe were great and lots of activities. Is Manor Club more sedate?

Also, what's the heat like in August? Is it South Carolina swelter or less humid?

I'd say more humid actually. The beach isn't far, you could easily spend a day there doing beach stuff.

I was there in winter so only the smaller pool was heated. It was just a regular rectangle pool but adjacent to the indoor one which they open up in the summer. The pool on the sequel side was closed but it looked like fun. More "stuff" for children on that side. Couldn't tell how large the actual pool was though.

The pool at Sequal is larger than MC but both are nice. There are some activities for children but not as many as a typical beach resort. Weather in August is generally extremely hot and humid. We spend a lot of time at Water Country USA which the kids love.

Virginia Beach is under an hour away however during the summer that hour easily turns into 2-3 each way with traffic. We did it once in 9 visits to Williamsburg during the summer. It wasnt worth the time. If youre looking for a beach I wouldnt stay at MMC.

We have reservations to do both Manor Club and Ocean Pointe this summer.

My family loves Ocean Pointe. One of our favorites, especially given our two young kids. Great pools, lots of activities, and the beach. While not as upscale as Oceana Palms, the amenities and footprint of the resort win out for us.

However, this will be our first trip to Manor Club. Oddly enough, it is probably the closes MVC location to our home. Our reservation is in MMC, which sounds to be perhaps a bit nicer than MSE? I expect normal summer weather, hot and somewhat humid. We'll spend some time at the Manor Club pools and perhaps do some local activities (Williamsburg, Water Country, Busch Gardens, etc). Sounds like the MSE pool is a bit larger and more for kids than MMC? Hopefully a short walk from MMC? Anyone know if there are any great activities around July 4th week?

Walking distance from MMC to the Sequel pool is less than 1 city blocks, or about 100 yards. Please do not hold me to the, exact distance.

I'm not particularly looking for a beach resort but my wife is. However she doesn't actually like being on a beach, doesn't like the sand and never goes in the sea, it's the location of being by the sea that she likes so a trip to Virginia Beach wouldn't really be on the cards.

I was more interested in the pools and the weather as if it is particularly hot and humid and we don't want to be walking around the sites then as long as there are some good pools for the kids then that'll be ok.

What are the pro's and con's of each side?

Stay on original MMC side!!! rooms are larger, nicer, better located, easier access into each bldg, closer to clubhouse/offices/activities. If you get Berkeley bldg, you'll be in one of the largest and best units in all of Marriott (formerly private condos) with high ceilings and walk-in closets. Second choice Governor's Manor or Chesapeake Manor. nice golf course or wooded views. No cons, imho.

Sequel side ---from entrance, long bldgs going away from you---hence longer walk to far end if you're located there (see aerial view in my previous post), bldgs not as well built, the feeling of those bldgs is more remote. Views are sideways into space between buildings (see aerial view). Not any pros, except maybe for slightly larger pool--not enough to warrant staying there, imho.

I think that LG is typical of all Marriotts I have stayed at, hotels or timeshares.

I have an LG 3D TV and love it.
