One of the things that allows me to take extended vacations is the fact that I can always connect to my work servers via the internet and I can work virtually from where ever I am.

I'm concerned about my ability to connect consistently at the Surf Club because of some reviews I've seen on TripAdvisor. Anyone have any recent experiences with Internet connectivity at the SC? I would prefer WiFi, but hard wired is fine if that is all that works consistently.

I was at SC for the first 2 weeks of November. Wired was working fine from the units. Wireless is available in the lobby area. I believe the issues you read about were from last year when a water pipe burst and ruined most of the telecom equipment, which included the PBX as well as the switches for 2 buildings. That has since been taken care of, but it took quite a while.

Joe, there is no problem now - you can get easy wired access from the room.

We were there 2 weeks ago and the in room internet access worked great. Used Skype for phone calls at 2 cents per minute to the US. Didn't miss us at work at all.

My friend is telling me to use his Magic Jack and it will be totally free. Anyone use that device in Aruba?

Magic Jack does NOT work at all at Surf Club. The internet works smoothly, but the signal is not strong enough to support the Magic Jack. I bought it specifically for Aruba, have not tried it in Phuket yet.

It did work well on our return from Aruba at the airport. Our connecting flight was cancelled and I was able to connect wirelessly and call the airline.
