But what are to do with the 200+ DVD's taking up space on our bookshelves?
BTW, I can't remember the last time I played a CD.

Yes, they peacefully passed away after a long illness known as chronic technological insignificance.

Shouldn't we also be wondering what to do with that Polaroid "instant" camera, CD case binders and floppy disks? :ponder:

There are two parts to these things - The physical wrapper and the data itself. If one is not restricted by DRM (Most CDs) you can copy the data (which is what you really used anyways) to the current form of technology. One can buy a micro SD chip (512GB) for $60 USD on Amazon, which will hold 900 CDs (In the original wav files). Data is forever, as long as you can get a program that will execute it. . .

Talent312, my Granddaughter download 100 + DVD's on her old IPOD (that she had given to me) and I stop her from download more at that point because she wanted to add another 100 DVD's..
I can play them by artist, album or by a playlist. I enjoy playing them by a playlist . I stop at 400 songs the other day by various artist.
My Granddaughter is smarter than her old Grandfather LOL.

Other than the cable channels that play music through the TV, or the car radio, we truly have no idea how to play music EXCEPT by CD.

I still have an iPhone SE and expect to get a new one if the Apple rumors are true. The bigger ones are a PITA to me:)

Cheers

I have a huge CD collection, some of which is not even music you would find online. I also have many DVDs, and many of those are hard to find. I have pared down my collection of DVDs, getting rid of "popular" movies that appear on tv and premium services. But some documentaries and indie films are hard to come by online...and I am keeping those!

I have about 400 CDs and listen to them while driving. I have no plans--or time--to convert them to MP3s, which I can't play in the van anyway. I've paired down my DVD collection to about three dozen, mostly TV shows. I take some with me when staying in timeshares to watch at night. I don't subscribe to music or video streaming except for an occasional free month of Netflix or Hulu for shows I can't get on DVD from the library.

I love not having any CD / DVDs in my house or the equipment needed to play any of it.

Prior to the demise of UltraViolet, I had been using Vudu to store my digital content.

For $2 (or $5 depending on format and target) convert titles to digital and store them in your cloud account, provided that title is supported by Vudu (now purchased by Walmart). (US only, don't think this works outside the US as of right now). You just have to scan the UPC code on the cover and if the title is supported you can then purchase a digital copy.

New titles are added all the time and as deals are brokered. On Vudu you can rent or purchase movies. Plus they have some FREE content that does have some periodic ads.

I play them in my car while I drive...

My new(er) cars do not have a CD player.
They have ports for you to plug in your own device.

I’m with you, Cornell. It’s funny, I remember as a teenager and even a very young married guy in the late 60’s, early 70’s working for little over minimum wage, it was a good month when I had $12-15 left to buy one album. I cherished them and the stereo equipment I was later able to buy. I don’t have any of it today. Donated it years ago. I just pay $14.99 a month for Apple Music family plan and the 3 of us play anything we want, as much as we want, any time we want. I love it!

And it can be played with zero wires and tiny equipment

And without all the dust that accumulated on the rarely played album covers!
