Just had a 5.6 mag earthquake here in LA.

The house shook etc, but nothing damaged here in the south bay...

anybody else feel it...hope everybody is OK

"They" say it could be felt here, too, but not where I am...Glad everything is OK. I've been through a couple of biggies in my life (Sylmar and Loma Prieta).

We felt it pretty good at home, but our kids who are in summer school in San Pedro, didn't feel much.

Rock and Roll!
My son and I were at a Hallmark Store, here in Torrance. Things were moving and swaying. I was paying, at the time, and had to put my elbows on the counter, as my first thought was that I was passing out (dizzy!). I was happy it was an earthquake and not just me!:whoopie:

Missing Elvis!

Here I thought you were going to say you were in love!!! Remember the ELVIS song "I'm All Shook Up?

In Carlsbad, didn't feel it but daughter in San Clemente really felt it.

I'm at the furniture market in Las Vegas. The World Market Center buildings are just north of the outlet mall at 15 and 95 and west of downtown. My husband felt it as did some other people. We are on the 10th floor.

We were at Lagonita Lodge in Big Bear Lake (visiting this T/S for the first time...loved it!) packing up to come home and didn't feel a thing! I was surprised we didn't feel it, but we were on the second floor and sometimes when you feel shaking you think it's just movement from people walking or something. Anyway, I found out later while having lunch in the village when I spoke to my Mom in Apple Valley on the phone. She said they felt it and she actually "heard" it coming. I've experienced that once too and it's a trip.

Glad you are okay ricoba!

Quake in La-La Land

Darn thing woke me up during my power nap at lunch.

IMHO, it's not even a REAL earthquake until it hits 6.0.....

Glad to hear that everyone is safe and ok though.

We got home not too long ago and found a lot of stuff on the floor. Our file cabinet drawers had fallen out and a lot of other stuff on top of the file cabinet scooted off because the cabinet was leaning plus stuff from the bookcases in that room too but nothing broke.

Also, two big suitcases had fallen off our bedroom top closet shelf because my DH had left the door open. What really upset me is that I found a few antique pieces on the floor that were on an antique cabinet and the doors had swung open and a furniture piece had fallen against it. The antiques are damaged and a few items in the kitchen too. Our neighbors had pieces falling off on the opposite walls from us as they came over to see what our damage was which is strange. I noticed a few cracks in the bricks of our patio floor. I haven't checked the rest of the house because I can't do much about it. :( We live in earthquake country and we know it. Our antique clocks are secured against the wall so they were OK.

We felt the earthquake pretty good while at a restaurant at the marina and got out of the way of the big picture windows as the jolt was pretty severe and then the rolling. I have everything valuable laying on the floor now so won't have more stuff break on me as we may have aftershocks. I am glad that nothing had fallen on top of my little notebook here because it is standing against the book case but now I am going to move it as it is not a good place. :p

Thanks CA/NV tuggers for posting as I was (as many of us were) concerned about you!

I should have felt it, as I was probably only half hour from epicenter in Rancho Cucamonga, but I was driving and unaware of anything.

That's what I have heard lots of drivers say....guess it doesn't speak too highly about our roads does it!!! :D

I felt it pretty good here. I'm not far from Janna's Mom-I didn't hear it coming-but I have experienced that sound before.

Spoke with my BIL & SIL who live in Chino Hills (epicenter)...they are in the middle of resurfacing their kitchen cabinets and all the fronts are off...they have a BIG mess to clean up. They have some cracks in their drywall and the tile floor in their bathroom "moved" away from the tub.

Emmy-I was thinking about you and Peter today-wondering how you fared. Glad you are ok :hi:

We felt a gentle roll in Camarillo. Our daughter, who lives in Vegas, did not feel it. She went to the MD and nurse said they all felt it. Just a reminder to update our disaster supplies.

I work in a two-story building in the City of Tustin which is about 10-15 miles from Yorba Linda/Chino Hills. It started with slow rocking and slowly grew and then there was a big jump which is when my co-worker and I ran out of the building as did everyone else in the building. Funny thing is I was on the phone with a client and without thinking I said, "Oh, an earthquake, hold on a minute" and I dropped the phone and ran out of the building. When I came back to the phone 5 minutes later and asked if he was still there he was! He just sat there on the phone through the whole earthquake and waited for me. Typical casual Californian...Duuuuude, whoa did you feel that!" This was a pretty scary one because it felt like it was going to keep building stronger but after that big jolt it just rocked the building for another 10 seconds. The Northridge earthquake was worse (that one woke me up in a panic and I was nauseas from going from deep sleep to panic in 2.2 seconds) and the Whittier one 21 years ago was even worse than that one, although I don't recall anyone from the office I worked at even being late due to the earthquake. I guess we Californians really are pretty casual about it. My kids' preschool teacher said none of the kids got scared because they really didn't understand what was shaking the building-it was the teachers who knew what was going on that got nervous. Glad everyone is okay :)
