Did a search but couldn't find this info so your help is appreciated. Just got a charge from II of $336 on an AC I used for a 2Br exchange. Have they always charged tax on an AC or is this another new charge?? Thanks.

It depends on the location. Both ACs and Getaways are charged with tax these days but only in certain locations - not sure which ones. I've had some where II charged tax and others where they didn't.

We gave away two AC's a last year. One was used for CA and the other for FL. CA charged a tax while FL did not.

I haven't yet been able to use an AC. Why would it be taxed? We still pay for it? Was that fee you paid just the taxes or was that the total AC charge?
Thanks,
Liz

Florida is supposed to have a sales tax, but sometimes II neglects to charge it. I have paid a sales tax almost every time I have used an AC in Orlando. Colorado resorts also have a tax.

THe tax was charged on top of the AC fee.

I guess the co-worker I gave the AC to that used it for a 2 bedroom unit in Orlando just got lucky then. They charged tax on the AC that was used for Big Bear Lake but did not charge tax on the AC that was used for Orlando.

We've used AC's on occasion. I had forgotten about that last one I used, which was for Colorado. We were not charged sales tax on that AC either.

How about that? I just paid taxes on an AC for Grand Timber in Breck and was happy to pay the taxes because it was a 2 bed, prime ski week, just before Christmas. Sometimes you just get lucky! Our grown kids are so excited to go to Breck!

That's really interesting because our AC was exchanged for Grand Timber as well but, it's a summer vacation instead of a ski week.

Im a semi-newbiw, and was wondering how ACs work? Is it like an extra week? Or do you have to use them last minute?

Yes, it is basically an extra week, but the trade fees are higher. You can use them last minute OR for certain areas where II has surplus inventory.

If you can travel off-season, you can get some great stuff with II's ACs. They are not like RCI's bonus weeks, which are pretty much worthless.

What is AC? Was the $336 on top of an exchange fee for a week?

AC = Accomadation Certificate. They are sometimes given out when you deposit a week the I.I. deems as desirable. They are good for an additional exchange subject to an availability grid. That grid is mostly resorts in over developed area's like Vegas, Orlando, Williamsburg and Branson or for shoulder/off season weeks. I find that they have the best value within the Flexchange period or travel within the 59 day window.

All deposits are not given AC's. Of the 7 resorts we own, only two qualify for an AC and only if we reserve and deposit weeks within a certain date range.

Thanks everyone. Our AC was used for Orlando. Total cost was $336. A 2br using an AC is supposed to be $299 so I guess the remaining $37 must have been taxes but geez that's over 12% in taxes. I guess I'll call II today and get the exact breakdown.

All the years we have been with II have never heard this subject before.

First time to hear that you had to pay a fee or tax on a AC.

One poster stated over $300 and that seems so out of line when your doing II the favor of giving them a resort and weeks they need.

We have been offered AC every year and never took one because we bought where we love going and only use request first.

With the great prices on getaways I would pay to use this before paying for a AC and giving up our week also.

I guess old dogs can learn new things! I'm as surprised that there is a fee/tax as I am I have never heard about it before!

$299 + taxes is still far less expensive than any MF I know of for a quality two bedroom unit. Plus, there's no upfront fee associated with purchasing another timeshare. Even on a $1 purchase off of E-bay you still have to pay transfer fee's and closing costs, which can get the price upwards of $750.

I haven't been searching Getaway's recently but, the last time we did, a two bedroom unit was going for more than $299 + taxes. A couple of months ago I was looking into two bedroom units in Branson for this weekend. All of the quality resorts were more than $336 for a two bedroom unit. If I had been able to use an AC, it would have been less expensive than paying for a Getaway.

I did know of this charge for AC that our resort gave us. It was pretty much useless for us because of the resorts and area's it was good for! Because of this we didn't try and use it and it just fell off our II acct in May 2008.

The charge made sense then because we paid nothing for this AC from our resort.

What I didn't know was a AC from II for giving them our unit also had this charge.

You are right about it still being a good deal if you use it for something you want and are willing to also deposit your unit to them.

Like I said earlier we bought resort and area we love going every year and only do Request First so we always have our week if II doesn't give us one of our three choices.

I know this is off-topic, but just curious - where do you trade to that you feel you need to do a request first?

Since returning to timesharing in 2005 after ten years away we have only made one trade to Maui.

This fell through because of both airlines we booked going under so II did get us back into our resort for same week of Maui trip.

Where we would exchange to isn't as important as the fact we get one of our choices or go to our resort for the summer, mostly July 4th week.

We did buy a even year unit at our resort last year so if we want we can exchange and stll enjoy our resort.

We already have July 4,2009 week and 2010 we have Labor Day Week for one unit and second unit we have July 4,2010 set.

As you can see we are set for vacations for next two years with a three hour drive up to Lake Tahoe. This also means we could exchange or rent our Sept 3,2010 week and if so we would get what we want or not exchange.

This is one of most important parts of using II for us just like years ago when we owned at this same resort and traded.

We are using an AC for our trip to Orlando this week. I think the total cost was under $340 for a two-bedroom at Marriott's Grande Vista for a full week. Not bad!

The AC we received from Welk is just like that one, except for the prices, which are a LITTLE different:
Studio - US 229.00
One -bedroom-US 279.00
Two-bedroom- US 329.00
