II offered me two 1BR's in lieu of a 2BR

I put in a new trade request with II two days ago for Westin Kierland for later this fall and my trade came through overnight. I didn't like the Sunday check-in so I called II yesterday and told them that I would only accept a Friday check-in. They had none available.

This evening II called me and offered two large 1BR units instead the 2BR unit I requested. I would not have to give up another week but was told that I would have to pay another exchange fee. They put the two IBR units on hold and gave me until Saturday midnight to let them know.

I am not sure what to do as another couple would be going with us. This split room scenario has great convenience but also takes away from the comradery.

Has anyone had this happen before?

no- but I'd jump at it. I always like a litte privacy - even with the best of friends (maybe that's just me).

You may be able to talk II into only 1 exchange fee?

Just take it and then work with Westin to have them in the same building.

Having the extra space would be a big deal if it were me. Everyone can have cocktails or dinner together in one unit or the other and then retire to thier own place to lie around in their pajamas in peace.

Just pay the exchange fee especially if you are planning on having the other couple pay for part of the trip.

Sounds perfect. I would try to get both condo's close to each other. The extra room and privacy that two places would afford you would be great.

We have done something similar with a one bedroom and a studio that were close to each other and it worked great. You can visit in one of the units as much as you want then have your own private space. We liked it much better than a two bedroom unit.

Usually, you can arrange to have the rooms close to each other. We travvled to SC this past summer with another couple, and found it nice to be in the same building (they were right below us), but had our privacy too.

I think that sounds great too. It's nice to "hang out" together, but it's nicer to have your own space. If you can be in the same building, that would be ideal.

I wonder if I should play hardball and make II do it for a single exchange fee or ask them to give me some cheap week to use during flexchange in the future. (like an AC). :D

II must be doing this regularly. I had a request in for a 1bdrm and they offered me 2 studios. I declined since I want the full kitchen.

Going with friends I think that's a great offer. Even with really close friends the added privacy and space will be appreciated when traveling for a week. Of course, ideally you'll be able to arrange for the two units to be close to each other, but as long as children are not involved there isn't that great a downside even if the resort doesn't accommodate you.

We were traveling to Barbados to a 2 bedroom with friends. When we got there, the 2 bedroom units were still being rennovated so they gave us 2 one bedroom units side by side. At first we were a little disappointed but we ended up loving it. We spent all day and evening together and then went back to our respective units for a little privacy. Even though we didn't have to pay an extra exchange fee, it would have been worth it if we had.

I also would consider this a bonus. Best of both worlds. Also, I like that II is doing this. With so many people locking off, etc. the bigger bedroom units are harder to come by.

If not sure what the dilemma is other than rolling the dice to try for a 2BR. It seems your alternative to taking two 1BR units, is to take just one!

Sounds like a great deal to me. I would however definitely try for just one exchange fee. Nothing lost in trying and it sounds reasonable.
