My II membership is up soon (today  ). We don't plan on exchanging anytime soon, but we really want a second room at our home resort to bring some family with us next year. Last year there were plenty of getaways available at the time (memorial day weekend), but this year, nothing has shown up yet. I know availability for getaways is only excess inventory and doesn't show up until there is plenty leftovers. I have 2 questions:

1. Am I looking too early?
2. Do you think someone at II could "help me out" ;) with this if I call and renew?

Since you haven't identified the location you want its hard to judge. Some locations are likely to have excess supply, others don't. Most Getaways are excess inventory only in a sense that resorts may have unsold (or not rented) weeks. II actualy buys Getaway inventory from resorts and makes profit on resale. From my experience ( I have used Getaways for many years) the inventory in some areas has shown a marked decline and prices are now higher than they used to be. I don't think II would "find" you the exact week you want just because you are willing to extend your membership. Good luck, anyway.

I wouldn't pay II for the hope of a getaway. You can probably rent for the same price - or close to - via TUG or Redweek for a property that would be listed on a getaway.

But who knows? It's all a big game!

You're too early to see them yet. They will be there. We usually book May Getaways around January or February. We book anywhere from 5 to 10 Getaways a year for our family/friends. II's Getaway prices usually beat any rental that I've priced out on Redweek, Ebay, or myresort network, etc.

Since Horizons is opening up a new building, there should be plenty of Getaways for May (in my opinion).

Yes, too early

I agree with both of these comments. Getaways are much better deal than the rentals offered at Redweek or ebay (only exception is probably last minute rentals, 45 days or under, at TUG)
