I don't know if this is the proper place to post this, so bear with me.

We own 2 Marriott weeks. When deposited to II for an exchange, I am able to view the inventory available for selection.

My M-I-L owns a week at St. Tropz in Ocean City, MD. When I login as her, the inventory offered is much larger than was presented to me.

Does anyone know why this might be? I know our properties are rated higher by II than St. Tropez.

This could be the quality filter that II has. They won't show you properties they deem not to be up to the same quality standards as what you already have. They don't want you to be disappointed in a trade.

II has quality controls in place, so the fact that your units are higher quality resorts is what limits the inventory that you see. II only shows you comparable quality resorts, while your in-law's account sees what they deem to be lesser quality resorts.

This is in place so as to prevent potential complaints from exchangers. If you want a trade into a "lesser" resort, you can call II and tell them.

sorry- didn't mean to be redundant- I was writing as dioxide was posting

Thank you both. That makes perfect sense. Sometimes our daughter will you an AC we might have. I will be able to check inventory through my M-I-L's account and then exchange on the phone.

What a crappy system. It should allow you to see anything that you can exchange for , even if it has to have a "click here for crappier resorts" link.

After I bought my first Marriott years ago I still had two non-Marriotts. The pulling power of my non-Marriotts increased tremendously and it actually showed all the same ones my Marriott pulled as well as others the Marriott didn't pull. Quite amazing. I sold the non-Marriotts on Ebay after a few years as they didn't really measure up in quality, size or location.

That's how it was for me "last year".

It has been discussed recently here on Tug recently that it appears II has tightened the filters this year now that the new ratings system has been instituted. I now CANNOT see any Marriott's using my Christie Lodge other than a few Streamside units and those inside Flexchange. As a matter of fact most "Premier" resorts are now not able to be seen.

Last year I traded my CL for a 2BR Marriott. I doubt I can now do that, even though II gave me an AC for my 2009 CL week.

I think you are on to something there - except I prefer the name "Fleabag Button".

I doubt it if too many Marriott owners would click it though. There is something not quite right about exchanging your top-tier Marriott for one that you have to put up with being bitten by bed bugs at night. I for one am glad that II protects me from unknowingly exchanging into something that would make my vacation less enjoyable. I assume that if one would truly want to trade down, he could request a specific resort.

The only reason I would like to see all is that when using AC's we don't usually travel that far. I would like to see some mid-Atlantic properties show up that we can drive to for a 4-5 day weekend. I rarely get anything nearby with the filters.

I've searched II's inventory often trying to find a resort that was within easy driving distance of the Baltimore/DC area.

Any suggestions for time shares at the Delaware or Maryland beaches?

Wish Marriott would build a resort in the mid atlantic and/or north eastern part of the US. New Jersey and Williamsburg are the only 2 resorts in easy driving distance.

We're talking about trying NJ next summer.

It would be convenient to see a Marriott resort in Ocean City, but I doubt if that would ever happen due to its very seasonal appeal. Not too much to do there in the Winter months. II does have some affiliated T/Ss in OC. I assume that you could request one of those.

I have some concern about owning a T/S far from home. Given the current economic climate and the price of oil, it might become prohibitively expensive to travel to Hawaii, or even to the Caribbean, for that matter. It is possible that most of us might some day be looking for exchanges to driveable locations for our expensive Marriotts.
