In checking out II inventory today, I saw a 2 bedroom Marriott Grande Vista using my 2 bedroom Marriott Harbour Point (during flexchange). I would prefer to hold onto my exchange weeks so called II to ask if it could be purchased as a getaway. They said 'no'. When you look at the inventory for exchanges and getaways for that destination and timeframe it is almost identical (except for the Grande Vista week).......so the explanation that II provided that getaway inventory is purchased and exchange inventory is deposited weeks doesn't really hold water.
Should I keep calling in the hopes of getting a supportive agent? I'm pretty sure I've called II in the past and they've let me take an exchange as a getaway. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I think its gone now but if it was under Marriott preference it may not be available.

They generously agreed to hold it for me(24hrs) with one of my weeks.....allowing me time to decide if I will exchange for the week, or to search out other options....that is why I'm asking the question on TUG.
I'd appreciate knowing if 'conventional TUG wisdom' would indicate that there is no point in pursuing it......or if I might have a shot if I got the right agent.
Thanks for the input.

Exchange and getaway inventory is definitely different. In places like Orlando, the inventory might look the same, but that is just because there is so much inventory available in both pools.

I always thought that getaway and exchange inventory were different.

But once I called to book an exchange that was available online. The rep asked if I wanted to book it as a getaway or exchange. I told him the week I wanted was in the exchange inventory. He said you can always book a week as either a getaway or exchange, either option is available on all weeks. He was very insistent and even put me on hold to find out the getaway price (even though I'd already told him I just wanted the exchange).

So I'd suggest you try another agent. I wish I had the name or extension of the man I spoke to. Keep trying.

Is it possible that you could do an XYZ for Orlando? It is usually pretty easy to get for this area and you could ask for either of these properties.

Other than that, many times I don't even think to check for exchanges. But for lots of inventory areas like Orlando I would keep checking for these areas.
