I have a Marriott week that expires in March 2016 that I am unable to use. I considered extending it but don't want to be limited by flexchange. If I make a reservation for March and then cancel it more than 60 days before will my week usage be extended for one year after the cancellation date and past the original expiry date?

I am assuming you are enrolled in the DC? If not than e plus might be a better option. Book something as far out as you exchange expiration allows and then do a retrade at least 60 days prior to check in. Even if you don't have an exchange you want available you still will have 2 more free retrades that can be for up to a year from the original check in date.

If you are enrolled than you should still be able to cancel your exchange and get a replacement week that you must complete travel no later than 1 year from when you cancelled. I imagine in the DC the new exchange if done to a Marriott would be free but in the past replacement weeks kept priority and lost the discounted exchange rate.

Thank you for the reply. It is not a DC week. When I cancel my reservation at least 60 days out will I have the option of putting in an ongoing request?

Yes, as long as you cancel more than 60 days out, you will be able to place an OGS against the cancellation replacement week.

However, it would be cheaper to book an exchange for as far out as you can. Then add EPlus for $49. That will add a year to the expiration. Just be sure to retrade outside the 60 day window for something, or if you don't know yet what you want, for something again as far out as possible.

EPlus is about a third of the cost of a second exchange fee. Though you lose the ability to place an OGS against it.

Does it work for for AC as well?

AC's are not eligible for eplus.

I believe you only get one extension on an AC. I would think long and hard before extending an AC. They are often quite restrictive and whether you were already restricted to flex and no ongoing requests, you will be once you extend. I couldn't imagine that the exchange fee plus the extension fee, in most cases, would be that much better in the 59 day or less period before check in over the price for a getaway for the same property.

Thank you, I was thinking that too. I just wanted to see what other TUG experts would think.

Thank you. I guess the only way to is to extend and pay $189 for 1 year extension. How many times can one extend an AC?

I have an AC right now that expires April 26, 2016. It states online:

"Each accommodation certificate may be extended twice, no more than three months after its expiration date."

And here are the fees:

Term New Expiration Date Price
6 months Thursday, October 27, 2016 $99.00
12 months Thursday, April 27, 2017 $189.00
