Can I create and on-going search for an exchange when I need a specific resort and only 1 check-in date? When trying to creating an exchange search on-line (using request first), I must enter an earliest travel date and a latest travel date, and they must be at least a week apart. I would like a one-day search window. Since I can't do this on-line, can I call and have II create the search for me using only one check-in date?

Yes, you have to call because the computer system doesn’t seem to like it. An agent we spoke to several years ago added requests for 2 other small resorts that never have availability in order to satisfy the “system rules.” Hopefully you’ll get an experienced rep that is familiar with this trick.

Isn't there a rule that you need to have either three resorts or three weeks (or a mix of the two) in any request? I have never experienced this when placing a request Marriott to Marriott, but have noticed it when going outside Marriott. A way around this online is to just put in a week and resort that you don't expect to come through. Like week 51/52 in Hawaii or some of those properties that have limited exchange inventory.

@rvpitt : keep in mind that by limiting yourself to only one target resort and one check in date, that you are really lowering your odds of an exchange. If you are trying to book at a location that has decent inventory, perhaps does bulk deposits, you are submitting your request a year or more in advance, and you are wanting to exchange like-for-like, perhaps it'll work.

BTW, make sure that the check in date is a valid check-in date. If you are asking for a Friday check-in and the resort only does Saturday check ins, you aren't going to get a match.

Thanks everyone. It took the rep from II many minutes to figure out how to do my search, but they got the search setup (1 date & 1 resort). Now I just wait for a match.
