II Cruise exchange

Has anyone exchanged their week/points for a cruise thru II? I'm curious how that would work. Looked at the II website but it doesn't really have much info. I did a search with my week and found some possible exchanges, but was wondering if there was an additional charge besides just exchanging my week and what that charge could be.

Since I retired I have several trips planned, some using my timeshare weeks and some not. To avoid risking the week expiring, I thought a cruise exchange could be a possibility. If anyone can provide the pros and cons, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!
Terri

I have exchanged timeshare weeks for cruises through Interval International. The cruise exchange department is apart from the vacation exchange people. It has its own toll free number (888) 801-0083 and was only available 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday when I worked with them.

As I recall, you can only exchange a week when it is 90 days or greater before the check-in date. You will pay the exchange fee and the cruise deposit together when making the exchange. You continue to only pay the Interval International cruise exchange department for all subsequent payments on your cruise. Once your cruise is booked you can't make any alterations to the booking such as upgrading the cabin.

I would do a lot of comparative pricing before doing a cruise exchange. Most of the time I found that I could get a better price by booking the cruise using other methods. With the cruise exchange, you get a discounted cruise fare, but once you factor the timeshare maintenance fee and the exchange fee onto the fare you are paying more. Occasionally, the cruise exchange was a competitive price.

Thank you. This is just the info I was looking for. Think I'll keep my week for a regular timeshare exchange.

You also can’t use a week already on deposit.

We were able to purchase a good priced cruise via II, but didn’t use a trade. Bought in Oct for a late Dec cruise & was several hundred $$$ cheaper than direct. It was our first cruise so we didn’t have anything to compare.

If I was doing it today, I’d buy via Costco, company such as vacation to go or a travel agent to get the onboard perks, help w/ excursions or gift cards. We didn’t get anything other than cheap initial cost which may not have been least expensive option.
