In the past II has always allowed a 24 hour cancellation for exchanges. I've cancelled many times within this period, no questions asked.

I found something I was intersted in this morning, Jan. 30 check-in (a little over 2 weeks away). When I called II and asked about booking it, I was told that if I confirmed the exchange I wouldn't be able to cancel on such short notice. He said that they don't allow cancellations for exchanges made this close to check-in.

Is this a new policy, or did this rep just not want to release this week to me?

I imagine they could tell you anything. But as 5 minutes ago, the T&C were still the same:

(b) Under II’s Exchange Cancellation Policy, a Member is entitled to
cancel a Confirmation by notifying II of his or her desire to cancel
such Confirmation within the first 24 hours after the exchange
request has been confirmed.

Call back and get another rep. The 24 hour cancellation period always applies to exchanges. There are no cancellations allowed within 7 days of check in but that doesnt apply here.

I did call II and talk to another rep. II still has a 24 hour cancellation policy, I don't know why the first rep claimed they didn't.

I need 24 hours to check flights, talk to travel companions, check my work committments and the family schedule

Many times I've called II about a particular week and had a rep try to talk me into booking with the possiblity of cancelling within 24 hours. I never book unless I really intend to use the week, but sometimes I just can't make it work.

II reps want you to book the exchange with them because they get commission on each one they confirm.

I've been told my many II reps that you will not get the refund of fees if reserving within a short period of time , I believe 14 days. You can cancel but the refund of fees within 24 hours of reserving will not apply.

The 24 hour cancellation period always applies to exchanges regardless of how close the check in date is. Check the Membership Terms and Conditions in your resort directory.

I believe it's 7 days, not 14 days.
